My first somehow decent productions have been done in Maya because that's what I've been taught at school. I've never really liked it, but people kept telling me: "hey, that's what real pros use!" So when I started my modest freelance activity and my free student license expired, I had to decide what tools to buy. I downloaded a 30 days trial of C4D, and it felt much more tidy and pleasant to use than Maya (not mentioning Max...). So I've put all my savings into a full studio license. Then, less than two years later, Blender 2.8 came out, and it was love at first sight. I've been such a fanboy ever since. I love the program, but even more than that, I'm so proud of being part of the community that backs it. I now donate part of my income to the Blender foundation, and I did a little bit of coding that ended up in the official release of Blender. It's hard to describe, but Blender makes me love the job more than any other tool or community in the industry.

I bet the big companies are still studying Blender's source code to see how it works and never finish analyzing it until an even better, more powerful, more tooled version is released.

ОтветитьRefunded 3ds Max now, it does not like millions of polygons or my setup or both. I now send my Fusion360 high poly meshes as obj to Blender to unlink. Then to Houdini as fbx, use polyreduce and UV nodes. Then back to Blender to render. Whole process for a 4 million poly 7 piece Colt45 now takes 1 hour.

ОтветитьDay 2 of Max and refunded, just too much of a 2010 feel. Much prefer the Zbrush/3DCoat/Blender/ SP workflow using AppLink/GoB.
ОтветитьJust got 3ds Max indie and working through tutorials. Houdini license to about to expire, so trying Max. I'm learning Architecture visualization to Max seems the tool to learn for now. But for rigging Blender is just so much faster than Maya for me. Also Houdini digital assets are a huge time saver, Learning curve is steep though

Mostly they're doing this with small teams or if they can a child studio
lol at the intro. Pretty funny how they still haven't learned that making it a shitter experience ONLY FOR THE PAYING CUSTOMERS will just lead to piracy / migration to competition.
