I watched this video three years ago. In the time since I picked up reading again every chance I get in between semesters at university. I challenge myself to see how many books I can read over a week, or a month, or a summer. And it’s changed my life for the better.

The hardest part with getting into reading has to do with our education, school makes us read as a chore with complete disregard to our enjoyment of the process. The only time in my childhood during which books were fun for me, was at one school where instead of telling us which books to read, the teacher simply took us to the library and we could take whatever book we wanted, we didnt have to turn in assignments, we didnt have to prove we read it in any way, we could simply choose whatever seemed interesting, and if it sucked we didn't have to forde ourselves to finish it because of grades. And because we free to read stuff that engaged us as entertainment, we loved it. Not once did that teacher have to worry about us actually reading, because we would almost trample eachother running to the library so no one would take the books we wanted. If instead of books, we were forced to sit in front of the tv to watch cartoons we didnt like and then had to do homework about it, we would grow up hating cartoons.

Jesus Christ. Stop making everything a productivity game. You want to read more? Stop consuming so much other content not related to reading. Spend that time reading. Done. No need for a 37 minute video.

Ti citas knjige zbog korica, ti si jedno dijete, obicno.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I watched this video four years when it came out and it changed my life. From never picking up a real book in my adult life to becoming a book worm- your video utterly inspired me. 4 years ago, I could probably count on one hand how many books I had read. Since this video, I've read probably 100+ books. Thank you, Max.

You need to read We All Hear Stories in the Dark by Robert Shearman.

The man's wife loved books. All she ever did was read. And all the man did after she died, was burn them. Because they reminded him of her. When he realised that she was presevered in the books she had read, the books that made her, he wanted to claim them back. So he went to the library, and told the libarian he wanted to read every book in the world. "Okay," the librarian said. And asked him questions for hours and hours and hours. Until, at last, she gave him a list. A list of every book ever written, in a reading order esoteric to the man, and the man alone. He read the books in one weekend, and they were all perfect, and they were all sequels; every work of fiction, he realised, an anthology in the wrong order. He had found the right order. But he wanted more. So he went back to the library. The librarian told him another million books had been written since he had last visited, and he could read them all. The man was delighted. "But," the librarian said. "You will have to start over. And read every other book again. And the order will be different now, because you are different now. It will be a new story." The man didn't want that. "Okay," the librarian said. "Follow the isles of the library until you are lost, and there is no light. You will find an old woman, who has the last one hundred stories that will ever be written. You will choose your own order as she tells them to you. And if you choose the right order, your wife will return to you." The man walked on, into the labyrinth of books. And the old woman said...

It's a three-volume anthology of short stories. Your interpretation of one story, dictates the next. I.e., 'If you think this story was about grief for a missing person, go to page 137. Or, if you think this story was about the fidelity of pain, go to page 502.'

Robert Shearman is regarded as one of Britain's best and most celebrated short fiction writers.

I stumbled across this video (thank you algorithm) and I enjoyed this video so much! Couldn’t have related more to having anxiety about not reading enough/indulging in too much internet content. I’m lucky if I even manage to finish a book a year! This is the clarity and perspective I desperately needed. Thank you for reigniting my passion for reading and for taking me on such an enjoyable and beautifully shot journey. Instant subscribe!

Social media, video games, internet etc these are the reasons why people arent reading as much. Simply put it, books might be healthier way of satisfaction but are not as instantly rewarding.

Reading more books in the Golden Age of Content can be a fulfilling and enriching endeavor. With an abundance of reading materials available, here are some strategies to help you read more books:

1. Set Clear Goals:
Determine how many books you want to read in a given time frame, whether it's per month, quarter, or year. Having a specific goal can motivate you to read more consistently.

2. Prioritize Reading:
Allocate dedicated time for reading in your daily or weekly schedule. Treat it as a priority, just like any other important activity.

3. Create a Reading List:
Maintain a list of books you want to read. This can help you stay organized and focused on your reading goals. Update the list regularly with new recommendations or interests.

4. Embrace Variety:
Don't limit yourself to a specific genre or type of book. Explore different genres, fiction, non-fiction, and even audiobooks to keep your reading experience fresh and engaging.

5. Carry a Book Everywhere:
Make it a habit to have a book with you at all times. Whether it's a physical book or an e-reader on your smartphone or tablet, having a book readily available allows you to utilize any spare moments for reading.

6. Use Audiobooks:
Audiobooks are a convenient way to "read" while multitasking. Listen to audiobooks during your commute, while exercising, or doing household chores.

7. Join a Book Club:
Joining a book club can provide motivation, accountability, and a sense of community. It also introduces you to books you might not have chosen on your own.

8. Set Realistic Expectations:
Understand that it's okay to put down a book if you're not enjoying it. Reading should be enjoyable, not a chore. Don't feel obligated to finish every book you start.

9. Limit Distractions:
Find a quiet and comfortable reading space where you can focus without interruptions. Turn off notifications on your devices to minimize distractions.

10. Read in Sprints:
Try the Pomodoro Technique, where you read for a focused 25-minute session, followed by a 5-minute break. This can help improve concentration and prevent burnout.

11. Explore Speed Reading:
Consider learning speed reading techniques to increase your reading speed while maintaining comprehension. Practice can help you read more books in less time.

12. Use Reading Apps:
Utilize e-reader apps or services like Kindle, Audible, or Goodreads to track your progress, discover new books, and engage with a reading community.

13. Diversify Your Sources:
Explore a variety of sources for book recommendations, such as friends, family, book blogs, Goodreads, or book-related podcasts.

14. Make Notes and Highlights:
Jot down notes, highlight key passages, or discuss what you've read with others. Active engagement can enhance your understanding and retention of the material.

15. Don't Forget to Enjoy:
Remember that the goal is not just to read more books but to enjoy the process. Savor each book, and don't rush through them purely for the sake of quantity.

In the Golden Age of Content, reading more books is within your reach, provided you set clear goals, make time for reading, and maintain a balance between quantity and quality in your reading journey.
