I am interested in preserving Capital. I currently have a pension of just over $3,000 with Full Social Security in 3 years or so. My wife wants grocery with a fair amount of US food but she actually likes tropical fruits too, but she wants a large English Speaking Expat Community and good healthcare with a pool she can use and a place to work out too. I have a fair amount saved too.
ОтветитьWhat are the income requirements for non EU persons/couples for the Euro countries on the list? Just because it’s affordable doesn’t mean they will let you live there.
ОтветитьThe countryside in France would be lovely, but Paris is a dump.
ОтветитьGreat list. France surprised me.
I would be very interested in a top 10 based on easiest permanent visas and super affordable cost of living for those of us with a 2k-3k monthly income and less than 100k in savings.
AVOID PHILIPPINES, it has a VERY HIGH INFLATION, TRAFFIC CONGESTION everywhere, and high rate of CRIMES from the Illegal Chinese employed by the GAMBLING INDUSTRY owned and run by the Chinese Mafia. There's too much POLITICAL BICKERING and UTILITIES(Water and Electric) are very HIGH. Gas prices are very expensive which makes food, services and everything expensive. There's NO SOLAR or ELECTRIC vehicle infrastructure despite the country being rich in sunshine year-round. Too much CORRUPTION with local village officials and even the police are involved in crimes.
ОтветитьExcellent video. Thank you. We are retired educators visiting Poland and Estonia after helping a new school open in Lviv. We are seriously thinking of selling our Portland condo and moving to Europe. Is renting is a better option than owning a home for seniors? We always wanted to own, but now it seems that putting the cash in CDs is wiser than purchasing a home. Plus the healthcare is better here, like in France, than in the US. Your thoughts? Dean & Cindy
ОтветитьMalaysia is underrated!!!! You guys got it right by including it in your Top 10 but I am surprised it does not consistently make the list. That's fine, less competition for me!!!!
ОтветитьHa! Ecuador is off your list this year, it seems.
ОтветитьMe be like after they dont want me to go outside:
ОтветитьWish you would have covered which of these countries also has medical marijuana.
ОтветитьCosta Rica … Yeah if you
like rain and more rain ☔️! …. 🤦♂️
The one measure she omits is ….
”Will the locals be nice to you?” … Accepting and Welcoming …
Perhaps only Uraguay and Portugal get this tick !
certainly not Spain, France, Costa Rica and Greece !
The best places to retire are the most expensive places to live. Right now I would only consider 🇨🇭 🇯🇵 and possibly Vancouver Island in Canada (if their fascist government is overthrown).
ОтветитьFrance sounds wonderful and I love the various cultures of the different areas, but I don't think my Texas tongue would ever be good at pronouncing French. My wife would be even worse. But I must admit, the thought of living in southern France seems very appealing to me. Perhaps in the Auvergne.
ОтветитьI've heard that Belize is retiree friendly. Is this true?
ОтветитьHave you not done your homework on the safety issues going on in Ecuador in the last couple of years? Makes it hard to watch the whole video knowing you haven't taken this into consideration or even mentioned it.
Ответить2024's retirement dreams! 🌍✨ Where would you love to retire? Share your dream destination, let's inspire each other and create our own retirement bucket list!
ОтветитьWhy is the Philippines not in the list?
ОтветитьWish there had been a more upfront discussion of safety in some of these locations. Especially, S. America and Mexico. You did not even mention the Mexican cartels and widespread violent crime like robberies, kidnapping, etc. Just look at the US Govt. Travel advisories.
ОтветитьColombia is a no-no. I am appalled that it is even being recommended. Lots of foreigners being murdered there.
Same with Ecuador.
Just listen to the news and read the history guys. Your life is more valuable than a low cost of living.
Lol southamerica is not safe. Turkiye has a high HDI Rate and cheap. Dollar and Euro gain in value more and more. You can live there good with 1000 dollars a month and you live in luxury with 1500 dollars a month comparable to a live with 15000 dollars income in US
ОтветитьNow account for handicap accessibility.
Ответитьwhere does kroatia rank ?
Ответить🛫🇲🇽🏖️
ОтветитьColumbia? Isn't that a drug haven?
ОтветитьHow is Thailand not on this list? This list is far to American-centric.
ОтветитьI have been in Ecuador since late December. I have enjoyed Quito, Otavalo (day trip to cotacachi), Banos, Cuenca, and now Loja. Every city has been distinct, coupled with the mountain weather, very pleasant for my daily strolls.
ОтветитьWow, safety must not be part of your equation. Ecuador? Colombia? 😬 Cartels, kidnappings, murders… enough of it that it’s even affecting Cuenca.
ОтветитьWhile place on the list is validated for these top 10 as many are on other lists, there is a pretty strong Western bias. 9/10 of these countries are fundamentally part of "Western (Judeo / Christian) Civilisation" and the remaining one (only one in Asia) is Malaysia where it's long history as a British colony makes it pretty comfortable for Western people. Folks, nothing wrong with Western Civ or any of these countries but I cannot imagine a top ten retirement list without Thailand !
One other knock on this vid is it talks about 8 assessment categories, but then goes very lite on linking assessment methodology with results. A BIG consideration for retirees after obvious things like CoL, safety, health care / infrastructure is ease / cost of retiree visa options. Lots of innovation in this category as the approach of the SEAsian countries is to attract long-term residents / retirees but not offer CBI (which is very diff than a Portugal, Panama, etc)
I’m sorry, but the narration was uninspiring.
ОтветитьAll very attractive destination - for me with an EU passport the south of Spain near Portugal is my choice. Everybody seems a little more critical about Italy and so am I despite having an Italian passport. Living now in Switzerland and moving to southern Italy I would get a very good flat tax rate of 7% for 9 years. I wonder why Italy didn‘t make it in your top 10 destinations.
ОтветитьSure is up to what is important to whoever it is that is deciding ? These choices appear to ignore any language barriers that would obviously exist for many ! As an American I am completely uncomfortable with all of these countries requiring Spanish and would feel like a fish out of water ! This seems to limit my choices for a comfortable desirable relaxed enjoyable and cheap retirement destination. ( ? ) -- My own research reveals Malaysia as an English speaking destination potentially with a somewhat low cost of living. -- The Philippines too potentially in certain areas could provide the comfort and affordable living. -- Then Cambodia is a stunning surprise as a very cheap living English speaking wonderful friendly Khmer culture destination also. -- The choices do appear to be fewer and more searching is likely required.
ОтветитьI’ll take the south of France.
ОтветитьI don't think your list takes into account the most important aspects for those who are retired and would like to live long term somewhere other than the US. Hint - taxes are most important for those on a budget (with healthcare and safety coming in 2nd and 3rd). Most normal people can't afford to be taxed in Portugal so that should NOT be rated as high as it is on your list. I would love to move to Portugal but can't afford the taxes.
ОтветитьLive like the Locals , walk to the Markets , Cook at Home . Live simple . Bicycle , bus , Train . Learn the language , keep it simple and you can live on much less .
ОтветитьI find it interesting that Americans living in America loves to put an emphasis on safety when it comes to other countries considering where the US ranks in the global peace index.
ОтветитьThis has nothing about Safety or the bureaucracy of getting visas. Very misleading. I know we live in Ecuador. Sooooo unethical
ОтветитьThe big problem here is the requirements on each of these countries to qualify for either a temp or permanent residencia card.
ОтветитьI have only one choice, out of all these countries, I'll choose España 🇪🇸
ОтветитьCan live on Philippines for 1400 comfortable
ОтветитьThanks, IL! Great vid. Mexico is my goal this year, lived there before. But you also hit upon all my other Plan Bs! Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica. Thanks for all the research!!!

ОтветитьWonderful video! As an expat in Costa Rica for 2+ years, I can understand why it's #1 on your index. Thank you for sharing all your research and knowledge! Might have to check out some of these others as well! 🙂Pura Vida!
ОтветитьGreat overview. Thank you
ОтветитьIsn't France one of the highest tax ratios in the world? I thought they were at 75% for wealthy folks a few years ago? Did all that get repealed or do they have different tax rates for expats?
ОтветитьWith a monthly budget of 2300 USD you should be able to have a pleasant live in 95% of all countries worldwide. Maybe for Switzerland, Monaco, Belgium, UAEs it won't be sufficient.
ОтветитьPlease do your homework and do not rely on any vlog. Safety is the most important factor. I am wary of almost all Latin American countries like Columbia.
ОтветитьNot sure why more southeast asian countries don't make this list. I'm moving to Bali Indonesia this year and my cost of living wont come near the title of this video.
ОтветитьFor those moving to Europe, don't forget plan for movements in the exchange rate. It could go to as high as $1.60 dollars per euro; at least historically it has.
Ответить
