Depends on what passport you hold. If it's European or Japanese passport, then you can keep a green card. If you have a third world country passport, then of course it's better to get an American citizenship

Hi Mam. We have completed 5 years as permanent residents in MD, United States. Can you be our mentor to guide us through Naturalization process? I don’t know how difficult it is.

I am a US citizen, but I am confused. I married Singaporean over a year ago. We want to live in the US and start a family. She also wants to become a US Citizen. I am currently preparing to file a Form I-130 petition. How does a Green Card play into this scenario? Or, is it a faster & different process?

why many people from China still hold dual citizenship from the US and China? Don't they really face any immigration programs

If you like to travel, I think being a citizen is more practical. You can stay out of the US for as long as you wish, travel on the US passport, and you have the absolute right of return.

Romanian passport can visit 174 countries without visa. All countries in EU + all Schengen countries not in the EU. But still, Romanians cannot buy apartments on the corner of a table, on a napkin, in a foreign country. Americans can do that. That's a major advantage. Want an apartment (house) in Katanga ? You can buy it. Romanians never even heard about the concept.

Yes, having a Green Card gives you the right to work anywhere BUT ALSO gives the government right and possibility TO IMPOSE your workplace and residence place. Anywhere they like.

The big no is that permanent residency and even citizenship DOES NOT GUARANTEE the right to work.

Hi, I'm currently on a trip for 6 months August - Feb. (5 months and a day before the 6 month period to be exact) and I'm planning to stay for 1-2 more months (so 7-8 months overall if possible). I'm a permanent resident in the US and already completed my 5 year statutory in 2020. I'm planning to apply for my citizenship when I get back to the US this year. My question is, will my 5 year period reset back to 0 and have to redo my 5 years before I can apply for my citizenship again?

I have proof that I'm still a resident and I've been and still living in the same house for 5-6 years, have a US bank account, drivers license and will pay my tax when W2 becomes available. Please advise.

I had a Indian who became a US citizen narrated this news to me re. Green card misuse. An Indian guy, got his US Green Card, due to his brother who became US citizen. Now, this Indian, was least bit interested in working in US & pay taxes. So, every year he used to visit US for 3 months & return back to India. This went on for 3-4 years & 1 fine day, when I arrived in US, the US immigration authorities questioned him, why is he out of US most of the time. He just said " As long as I come back before the deadline date & fulfill my Green Card resident status, there's no issue". The US CBP immediately tore up that US Green card visa on his Indian passport & gave him a 10 yr US visit visa. That Indian guy was stunned!
So, anyone thinking of cheating the system, think 10 times.

You may enjoy more benefits as an American citizen, but you'll always be treated as a second class citizen because of your race and nationality. I chose to keep my permanent resident card instead.

Biggest disadvantage is you have to file & pay US income taxes (subject to tax treaties) for as long as you are a US citizen even if you decide to leave.
