Sonic's old model looked ugly, hyperrealistic, and had human teeth. Overall disturbing, but people hated on the model so much, that paramount changed his model so sonic looks better.

I’m really glad that Sonic was handed off to Paramount instead of Sony. Live-action Sony sucks. Venom 1, Venom 2, and Morbius are all terrible. Madame Web looks to be awful too because of Dakota Johnson pretty much saying that the movie’s going to be horrible on SNL. Madame Web is going to suck balls, but Sonic movie 3 is going to rock hard!

I've always felt like the movie must have been very important for the Sonic franchise as a whole, too. I remember a video by Super Eyepatch Wolf which started by saying that the Sonic movie design reveal was a bit of a culmination of the way Sonic had become somewhat of a joke over the years. In that sense, the design was kind of representative of the state of the franchise as a whole. And that makes the redesign so much more important. Not only was it a commercial success, but it can also be seen as having exorcised that whole part of Sonic's public perception, bringing Sonic back to new heights.

My main doubts for now are the way this will affect Sonic's portrayal in the long run. The Sonic movie has its own unique take on the character; and if the movie is representative of Sonic's success, it certainly encourages other Sonic material to also have their own take on his portrayal. The issue here is that Sonic has a very distinctive edge and appeal to him and I wouldn't want these portrayals to make him steer too far towards a "generic protagonist" kind of deal. Sonic Prime — though I admittedly haven't finished watching it yet — is a clear example of that happening; and I've even seen Frontiers get criticism for some aspects of Sonic's characterization, mostly the same things people point out about Flynn's writing of Sonic in IDW. Frontiers itself is a promising step away from this risk, but I do hope we don't end up falling in that direction regardless.

Fun Fact Monster Trucks was filmed in my city. Got to watch the first Monster Truck chase scene being filmed. It was just one shot of it though of the truck driving fast down the road , with a pursuit vehicle(Car with a boom sticking out the roof that the camera is attached to) in front and behind the truck.
