Alien Isolation - Comparison Vanilla vs Insane AI Mod - Nightmare difficulty

My problem with this game was always the fact, that Xenomorphs seemingly rely on eyesight instead of scent here, while canonically they are supposed to be blind and rely mostly on scent, so hiding in lockers should be pointless.

i tried the insane mod in the medical section and gave up, couldn't even leave one room without the alien revisiting it over and over. It just makes the game unfair and needlessly over-punishing xd

i am i wouldnt want the draindead one just peacing out even tho i was making a bunch of noise nearby,
but i also dont want a xenomorth that will smell a fart i makde like 5 minutes ago and track you to your precise hiding spot even tho u werent moving

So the mod makes the game even more boring. The Alien AI must be realistic, not just agressive

Wait, did they patch the Xenomorph's AI to dumb it down? When I played this game in its early days, the alien acted exactly like she does in the mod.

Vanilla xeno: Acts like an animal hunts its prey.
Insane AI xeno: Acts like an assassin hunts its target.

The mod seems to basically tune the Director to give more precise player location data to the Actor AI and reduced the rate of the Menace guage rising thereby causing the Actor to linger near the player for longer. It's not really better AI, it's just cheating more.

Beyond that the three fov just seem to have had their sensitivity adjusted to allow the Actor to respond almist immediately if thecplayer is in the peripheral view cone.

The Xenomorph has remarkably human flat teeth, appropriate for omnivores. Unusual for such an apex predator.

FUCK THAT!!! I am not playing this mod!! Don't get the wrong idea! I mean it as a compliment!!

Sometimes I feel the a.i is a little unfair. Like when the xeno goes away in a vent it should be gone a little longer because a lot of times it just appears moments later again. The motion sensor is also not always helpful. It's a great game but I do feel the alien a.i is sometimes a little flawed and unfair. Like a lot of times I died it was due to a bullshit reason.

No way that first few tests were on nightmare mode. I wouldve died before i even got into a second room.

There'd be no point to play the game with this kind of AI

I know I love this game, but if the developers is gonna improve it with Nightmare difficulty, they would've improve the AI much like with Insane AI mod.

If I played the San Christobal level on AI mode then it would take me weeks to make it out of there.

The appeal of this games AI is that the alien learns and adapts depending on your own behavior, the more you progress in the game the more brutal the AI gets, so choosing one of the earliest encounters to test the capabilities of the games AI is a pretty crappy choice. I was running circles around the Alien often in the first half of the game, running and then hiding, luring it away, trolling it, making it kill other people, in the last few chapters the casual time was over and I was struggling to progress despite being more experienced as well as far better equipped than I was in the early stages of the game.

The base AI is extremely overrated. It's essentially glamourised Pac-Man ghost AI

Well, it's not insane. It's impossible! Is there a middle ground mod? Harder than normal and not as hard as this mod?

You can fix the sound issue whenever you die and theres no sound, by capping your fps at around 60, i use 90 and still hear it, also i think capping your fps makes cutscenes run smoother but im not 100% sure about that

my threshold for tension and nervous breakdown is way too low for me to play this even on normal (I struggle on easy, TBF) so I wouldn't withstand the Insane AI for 30s. I also find it extremely hard to gauge the creature's location on sound cues only, so for me I'm always moving at snail pace looking around at all times

I don’t know WHY this got recommended to me a whole year later, but to give my two cents; One of the most important parts of a horror game is in fact, not trying to actually kill the player - it’s trying to make the player FEAR dying without actually doing it.

Because the moment you die, is when all the tension is released. You see the game over screen - maybe you got a jumpscare, but your mind quickly adapts and leaves it’s “oh shit” mode, and the more this happens, the less you’re going to respond to the fear of death, because, well, it doesn’t REALLY hurt you, and you’re more likely to start getting annoyed than scared.

But if you get a bunch of narrow misses - if you duck behind a corner and think you had a close encounter with it getting to you, the tension doesn’t let up. Now you have to proceed with the knowledge that it’s SOMEWHERE ahead of you as well. In fact I imagine that first scene was somewhat scripted for that exact purpose.

Honestly? The game seemed to get it pretty spot on when it was released, I think a mod designed to make it harder might appeal to somebody for the challenge, but is likely a bit of a detriment to what the game devs actually WANTED the game to do - just to explain why the alien might behave, for lack of a better term, “stupid” from time to time and let you get away when maybe you shouldn’t.

nice mod but it needs to dial down a little and should be mixed with the adaptive AI of the xenomorph then its gonna be unpredictible

From what i know the game was also designed with the alien having 2 ai brains one knowing where you where at all times. And the other one at the start of every level knowing nothing but the longer you stayed on that level the more it would know as the all knowing brain would start feeding it details of your location and eventlay it would start locking in your location and finding you.

Yeah nice Insane AI Resident Sleeper Mod. This is maybe good for kids that have time to spend like 2 hours playing in single area of the map. Balance and pace wise, this is a very badly designed mod.

i mean , if u WANT to spend 5 hours under a desk , i guess u can hahaha XD... but i will say it makes the Xeno very realistic and it's pretty awesome i must say
