Nice light WK. Video is out early for this but massively appreciated! Still contemplating for this though WK. That built in battery is holding me back. Any feedback to get me to get one would be great though. Thanks Mate.

Khun Weerapat. Have you tried modding your flashlights and using unprotected cells for better output? Like soldering wires on each end of the springs to shorthen the connection and using high amp unprotected cells? Could you try it please and show the difference from with and without those mods? Please Khun Weerapat! Thank you in advance!

Thanks for the video and the effort you put in 👍. The EDC33 could have been one of the best flashlights ever, unfortunetely it is one of the worst. The built-in battery alone is a 100% dealbreaker (for me anyway) but the sudden drop from 4000 lumens to 5 is beyond ridiculous. Power means nothing without control and if you (Nitecore) can't find a way to control the power (heat) then let it be, because this flashlight will end up as a 4000 lumens clickbait only.

The Lumin Shield is a perfect implementation of the tactical flashlight as a self-defense tool; it's not meant to work as a normal use case but as a feature (a shield with insanely bright output) that can be accessed in a matter of split seconds. Readiness, intuitiveness, and ease of access are the key aspects of a self-defense flashlight. Definitely, 4000 lumens will disorient, and this is an advantage for the user for the next maneuver.

Another example is the Nitecore SRT6i/7i or Nextorch TA series. In any state, user can override turbo.

I think EDC33 will provide many possibilities for a flashlight manufacturer, not only for Nitecore itself.

The built-in battery isn't a deal-breaker; almost every electronic device has it, and it's not even a problem. For a normal or heavy-use scenario, most likely it can last for 3-5 years. For a specific feature flashlight, it's all good.

Too bad about the built in battery. If the claimed performance is really that good then this is an amazing light for the size. Just under 26mm head with 4000 lumens and over 400 meters of throw is one of if not the best I’ve ever seen for this size. Unfortunately I refuse to buy certain items with built in batteries so even though the price is great I’ll have to pass.

One of the best flashlight videos I've seen so far. You went over everything. It was very easy to see what each mode looks like, i didn't know that high mode has the flood and spot leds, that's very good to know and very practical.

I like how the spot mode has more candela than the 4000lm mode. Maximum range when you need it but when you need flood the spot led steps down a little to create a perfect beam. Mine will arrive tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it.

I subscribed, the content is great

Gonna wait for other company to implement this concept with removable battery.just sharing*i already has a dissaster back in the cave when i cannot swap battery for search and rescue in 2018 with my olight marauder.being only below 10 lumen are totally useless when you cannot locate poisonus creatures around.we even got trap for 37 hours until water current slows down to be able back to basecamp. already learn my lesson to only buy removable battrery type highpower flashlight to bring in S&R mission.and always bring spare batteries.i only use this build in battery around house or car.

I do think people are missing the point of why the battery is not replacable. By building the battery in they were able to increase the battery capacity and make it smaller. It also allows them to make the light more durable so it will take knocking it around more easily so it should be more reliable and not be damaged so easily as other lights. Sure, I’d like a replaeable battery, but I personally was looking for a small very powerful tactical light that I could easily carry around all the time. I do wish it had the strobe function though. And it would be nice if the Shield and flood lasted longer. I’m looking forward to mine coming in next week.

I like that it has several good features. The multi-core LED is especially interesting allowing some spot and flood combinations. I don't like that the specifications are not clearer in the manual, i.e. at least some approximations of stepdown times and lumen levels. I am glad you clarified them. I understand that Nitecore cannot rewrite physics laws for small flashlights, but manufacturers should specify what I the user can expect. If I need Lumin Shield, I do not want it dropping down to 5 lumens. Medium or low at least. I also would prefer the flood in ultralow mode. If I am using ultralow, I am working close to something, say reading or writing, and flood would be much better. Probably the same for low with perhaps just a bit of spot kicking in. I would prefer a replaceable battery if at all possible, as I try to limit my number of flashlights that have built-in batteries for form or size factors. I would still consider this light if they tweak the other aspects. Thanks for your time making the video.

Does your make you half click twice to stay in high?

If I turn mine on in medium, half press, it goes to high and immediately steps down...then I half press again, it goes to high and stays in high.

Does yours do the same?

Or if you turn it on in high, does it immediately step down, until you half press into high again, and then stay in high?

I just got mine and I'm having issues with the tail cap switch keeping the button held in for the 4000 lumen mode seems you really need to mash down hard and hold the button down really hard or it will drop back down to previous mode. It is very unnatural and i keep forgetting to mash down hard so it just drops down to previous level. Might keep for a week or two turning switch off and on maybe loosen up the tail cap switch.

If the light is on, say, on Medium or High, and the Search or LuminShield is activated and held for some 20-30 seconds, the light steps down automatically to Low. But what happens if the light is on Medium or High and the LuminShield is activated but just for a few seconds only and then turned off? Does the flashight return to the previous mode (Medium or High) or does it returnt to Low (as it does when overheated)? Cheers!

It's great but... getting 4000 lumens accidentally in your own eyes when for example checking your watch or scratching your face as happened to me with 2000 lumens two times, was already horribly painful enough. I genuinely worried about my eyesight, because I saw a burnt spot for 15 minutes straight after that. I dread to think what would've happened with 4000 lumens, so I can't trust myself or anyone in my surroundings with that, especially since the lumin shield is only a long press away as opposed to Sofirn's very handy double quick press for turbo (much safer).
Pity

The last two questions, if I may:

In the search/spotlight 1700 lm mode the intensity steps down after some 30 or so seconds, but only slightly. What happens if you keep half-pressing the button? Does it continue to work at this stepped-down intensity for minutes or does it ubruptly step down at some point to ultra low due to heat just like Luminshield mode, just a little bit later? I tried to find a runtime graph by independent testers, but the light seem to be still too new...

I found this light at Thai Power Light for some 2500THB. You mentioned that your light came from the Nitecore Store. Is there a difference in price? Would the latter one involved duties and taxes? Is there another place to look for it?

Many thanks!

Some people are just crybabies!! Complaining about the built in battery! 😥 Well, I guess a lot of you will miss out on an awesome light!!🤷Some people even complain about it getting hot on Turbo! Clearly these people don't know much about flashlights! All lights will get hot on turbo, if used too long, Turbo isn't meant to use for long periods of time! Especially, a small light with that kind of power! Some people are never satisfied!! 🙄😭

Very good video, thank you.
The EDC33 has a lockout which is exceptional and unique. The operability of the USB-C charge port and the way it is protected, and the very practical battery level indicator make this torch an outstanding and underappreciated lighting instrument.
The runtime of the EDC33 is also off the charts. 300 Lumens of light flux is what you get from the majority of personal & EDC torches, including these 100,000 lumens torches sold on Amazon. Well, at 300 lumens the EDC33 operates for more than six hours, which mean this torch has a 95% efficiency converter and the LED with high Lumen/Watt ratio.
At 300 lumens, the converter draws ~750 mA from the battery, which is almost 3 W. Considering the losses, 2.5 Watt are fed to the LED, which in turn emits 300 lumen; this corresponds to a peak efficiency of 120 Lumen/Watt - something you don't see in other torches.
Sadly, there are many electrical connections between the tailcap and the bezel of this torch; this has forced the Nitecore engineers to opt for a non-removable battery, limiting the field options for this torch. Notwithstanding this limitation, I daily carry the EDC33 for its flexibility, efficiency, size, and reliability

Honestly the medium mode seems like the best mode for me. In the dark 300 lumens is more than enough and the 7 hour runtime is way more usable than the high for only 2 hours
