Apple's iOS 7 Controversy

What funny is I only got to use iOS 6 for about three days on my very first iPhone before iOS 7 came out.

after more than 10 years, I still hate iOS 7 UI and nowadays's UI so much.

iOS 1-6 - aimed at men, computer geeks and older people
iOS 7- aimed at women and teenage girls

Idk what the fuss is about the design I like the newer looking the design since then

And from that day forward, all soul and personality dropped from everything.

Skeuomorphism wasnt removed, it was reduced. The apps themselves were no longer skeuomorphic, but the icons used for actions and apps still remained as skeuomorphs.

For example, the camera app went from a more realistic icon of a camera, to a less realistic one. It didnt become less skeuomorphic, it doesnt represent a camera any less, but it was less detailed. It was only skeuomorphic where necessary, where it actually helped make the UI more usable.

I think UI on older operating systems, while visually pretty, was actually pretty bad for productivity, especially for multitasking. Modern UI has its only beauty, from its functionality.

lol all the people that switched to android over it made me laugh. had a few friends that did that. ios 7 was released in sept 2013, then android kitkat was released a month later with a suspiciously similar flat design. Of course unless you had a google nexus, you didn't see that change for like another 6 months on the latest phones because... android.

I remember being so disappointed when I upgraded my iPad 2 from iOS 6 to iOS 7.

I think it’s funny some people didn’t like iOS 7. When I saw the preview reel Apple released for it, narrated by Jonny Ive, that was the day I became an Apple fanboy

I remember all the hype for iOS 7. Everyone at my school was talking about it the day it came out. Feels nostalgic looking back at it

I remember playing with iOS 7 on a used iPhone with my brother.

Back in 2013 I remember I really liked iOS7. Now looking in retrospect I see that iOS6 was much more cohesive and beautiful (in my opinion). It was also much faster and felt more fluid in comparison. I like many of Ive's designs but he prioritizes design too much over function and usability. People nowadays think of flat design and minimalism as the latest trend but it has been existed for quite some time (modernism, Bauhaus). Not all things have to be minimalist.

Pretty braindead conclusion. iOS 7 had many problems--problems that Apple acknowledged and solved in iOS 8-10.

iOS 7s design matched the hardware perfectly, but all of us can agree the black iPhone 5 with iOS 6 is unmatched, it felt very premium with the skeuomorphic design.

Nice to look at. I remember getting like, an iPod touch I think, brand new, and it had that iOS and it looked so nice. I used to uploading my music to my phone and seeing the album art and music interface on a brand new screen. And with the iOS 7 it looked so sleek. It definitely was an interface that if I’d not had and I saw it, I definitely would have wanted it.

ios 7 was just not good on the iphone 4 but also early versions of ios 7 were designed with a slower ui intenionally they fixed it in 7.1 and also somewhat saved the iphone 4 but the 4s on ios 9 was left dead slow

I started using iPhone in iOS 10 on my iPhone 7 Plus and I still use it until now since teenage days

Imagine calling iOS 6 (the most iconic OS design ever) "uninspired" and then making something so basic as iOS 7😂

At the time, I felt a little shocked by the change, too. But now, after all the time, I see, how wrong I was: Ive’s icons still look fresh - and the skeumorphic ones look like funny stuff from a museum.

I wish they redesign some App icons soon

the control center in iOS 7 looks awful (totally inconsistent, why is the chevron at the top so thick?) but flat design in general was absolutely the right move to prepare for more complicated UI in the future

I had an iPod with iOS 6 and I liked it. When I got my iPhone 4S in late 2013 when I was a freshman in high school it came with iOS 7 installed and I thought it looked a lot better. My mom got my the iPod the year before for Christmas, but I would not have gotten an iPhone with iOS 6 I did not like the look of it.

ios 7 was the best ios and i stand by my oppenion. ios 6 is second best

I loved the design of 7 but the performance was horrendous. The optimization for older devices at this time wasn't cared for as they are now. I had an iPhone 4 and when I got iOS 7; it ruined the phone to an almost unusable state. It was enough for me to switch to Android for several years before coming back to an iPhone like I have now. It was new; it was buggy; but I think Apple's design went in the right direction because it still emits a lot of color and vibrancy. iOS 6 was beautiful; and I think those designs back then were absolutely what we wanted and loved. I like the design of today though and I think that it's beautiful and simple. Simplicity is always a win imo because we want to feel good using our devices; not distracted.

I've been saying since iOS 7, they could have easily made a mixture of minimalism and skeuomorphism. There was no need to destroy the iPhone UI in a single day. Just take the same icons, but remove the shadows and reflections and stuff. For example the Game Center icon was simply horrible; it made me feel like I'm not using a smartphone but rather a Samsung Star or something. But hey this has been like 10 years ago

aww man, the 2010’s looked so fun and cool. To bad today I live in a degenerate generation. And im 12, its just sad to see that it used to be fun before.

Personally, the initial release of Apple Maps was not that big of a deal. I used it, and yes some things were spelled wrong, or placed wrong. However, the initial fixes fixed most of the problems.

I remember everyone at my highschool hated ios7 and said it looked horrible. I liked the update and didn’t care.

funfact: I've heard of app store download link from old video, the links never work. So, I think apple warned developers to re-upload their app on ios 7.

This is seriously a way better laid out iOS than the current one especially the notifications

Personally I prefer the new iOS and macOS design. It seems more clean, simple, and readable. In fact one of the reasons I didn't like both OSs && prefered Windows 7 or even 10 over them was that I didn't liked the design.

IOS 6 marked end of Steve Jobs era of Iphone Iphone 7 was starting of Tim Cuck Era and that os has his name written over it

I'm an Android user and i collect phones, especially iPhones, and everytime i get one, i downgrade it to iOS 6 if possible. Now you know how much i love iOS 7

I remember when my iPad upgraded to iOS 7. I was a small child then. Maybe 5 years old or something, and everything looked weird after the upgrade. I remember wondering why the video recording button in the camera app looked different.

Windows Phone was the first phone to not have skeuomorphism in 2010. I don’t know why it was such a big deal.
