Thanks for the jar chat, It's tricky here, but I looked at those red and white lid ones, they are in my local reject shop, I l purchase those for starting
ОтветитьGreat video, thanks for the tips. I want to try canning soon :)
ОтветитьIs there a rubber that can be painted on to recycled jars?
ОтветитьThis is awesome thank you so much for a informative video, just what I have been looking for
ОтветитьGreat video, very informative. Thank you 😊
ОтветитьHello from South Australia! Thanks for this video :) recently into canning and homesteading and was so disappointed with the lack of Australian resources and info. Appreciate this!!
ОтветитьYou can re-buy lug lids for jars you recycle and reuse from products.
ОтветитьAlso have used the glass jars from the supermarket eg, sauce jars, pickles etc. I pressure canned a heap of carrots and they have worked well. I also have bought Forjar lids and they are great.
ОтветитьI have been pressure canning for a few years with my fowler vacola jars. They are a bit harder to open. I find a small pointy knife works when I place it to dislodge the rubber ring. I also have Ball Mason jars and bought some Aussie ones and they have worked well.
ОтветитьI have recently brought the Aussie brand my self haven't used them yet. I am so glad we can buy jars here.
So glad to find another channel in Australia. We don't have a canning culture here so it's hard to buy the equipment. I hope you keep the vids comming it's great to see some channels make by Aussie. Great job on the jars.
Its actually called bottling in Australia. Canning is an American term, just sayin
ОтветитьFor jar lids work for me
ОтветитьWatch a video on soaking the lids in baking soda water to soften gasket then washing them before using.
ОтветитьAussie mason jars are good for pressure canning . I use alternative lids and keep the ussie mason lids for other uses.
The only thing stopping me with the tattler and harvest guard lids is that they are plastic.
I am assuming the lids are not rat proof
Thank you so much for the comprehensive review. I’m getting back into canning this year and was looking at other options to build on my Ball stash, as they are becoming so rare and expensive in Australia now. I really appreciate your reviews!
ОтветитьOn the jar from Kmart you didn't like. Is it a vacuum lid? I just bought some preserving jars from Kmart because they were really cheap, about $1.67 for a 1 litre jar. My concern is will they seal properly? Wondering if you have seen Kmart's current offerings. Also wondering how old the jar you showed was. If it is only 2 years old they are likely putting out the same rubbish but if 10 years old perhaps they have improved the design. Perhaps too the screw on has changed and you can put other lids on them. It still comes with a 1 piece lid.
What can I say, I am a cheapskate. If I can get preserving jars for $1.67 for a 1 litre capacity that work well, that is the sort of deal that puts a smile on my face. The smile disappears if the jars end up not doing the job properly.
Great video 🙂
ОтветитьI’m new to canning. Can all the jars be used in a water bath and pressure canner.
ОтветитьGreat video thank you.
ОтветитьKitchen Warehouse has a sale. Some Kilner Jars are up to Half Price off. Best time to stock up on them 😊
ОтветитьGood honest review mate. Just a question, are there basically two sized lids - wide mouth and standard?
Would a Ball lid fit on a Aussie Mason jar with an Aussie mason band/ring for instance?
Only asking because the quality of the Ball or Kerr lids seem to be of a better/thicker quality from many reviews I’ve seen.
Finding it really hard to find Ball or Kerr jars and lids here in Oz at the moment and really want to try and stay away from the inferior types you spoke of that you find in shops like Kmart, Target and BigW.
Do you rate the quality of the Kilner lids and bands?
Nice to see what’s happening outside my own region, thank you. I recycle jars, too. Can you share how you get the garlic smell off the lids when you recycle garlic jars?
ОтветитьThe jars with the red and white lid. Where are they from? Thanks.
ОтветитьI have 2 a stove top as well as a plug-in vintage Fowlers. Have the jars somewhere too
ОтветитьThe different side of Darren 😋
ОтветитьI’ve never seen those welk jars! Mason jars with sealing cap lid and then a screw top is all I’ve ever seen But with the mason jar lids after sealed take the screw lid part off for storage. Check out Boots and Bounty Homestead for good canning ideas!
ОтветитьI've wonder about some of the canning jars you're used. I can only get the tattlers and one time use flats here. Very interesting
ОтветитьMorning/afternoon sir
ОтветитьWith the Weck jars, the tapered one you had the picture of and the tulip shaped jar are both rated as suitable for pressure canning, but the other ranges are water bath canning only. I haven’t tried them as yet but as soon as I move I’m going to buy a dozen or so to test them out and if I’m happy with them I’ll buy up big and switch over to them. The tulip ones are absolutely beautiful but the tapered ones can stack together for storage so I can’t decide yet which one I’ll go with. I guess it depends how much storage space I have. The glass lid is a big factor for me. I much prefer glass to metal. And not wasting money on new lids every time is preferable. They do seem to be a fair bit wider than the Ball jars so less will fit in the canner each load, but I think that will be worth it. How many fit at a time will probably be a factor in which design I choose too.
Once I’ve bought up big with Weck, (I think they’re a bit cheaper from Ozfarmer) my Ball jars will get used for vacuum sealed dry goods. The gold lid jars and other cheap ones will be dry goods and spices etc.
I also have many boxes of saved jars. Passata, sauce etc. You can get replacement lids for those kinds of jars from Greenharvest. I’m okay with reusing lids but they will wear out before the jars do so it’s good to know they’re available.
I’ll save this video so if I decide to get some Tattler lids for my Ball jars I’ll use your link. Not sure about that yet. Will see what I need once I’m unpacked.
Great video babe. I hope youbhave good luck with the Tattler and Harvest Guard lids
