Item lvl is just stupid thing. Literally I have green item that is better than anything else provided by raid in one slot. And also I can have powerful on use effects from green/blue items that situationaly can literaly means line between death and life.

Why is Classic (vanilla) more interesting than retail?
1. Challenge = fun. If you are not challenged you get bored.
2. All mechanics are relevant. Hit, miss, dodge, etc. All stats matter, all buffs matter, food matters, professions matter in the outcome of battle. In retail, misses, hits, crits, food, buffs, profession do not determine the outcome of battles in such a degree. You will not think you'll lose a battle in open world pve just because a mob parried three attacks in retail.
3. Money and loot matters a lot more. Money is limited and makes you choose a lot more what you do with it. Rares are rare, epics are frigging ultra rare. In retail epics are common.
4. Zones in classic are better. They are much more immersive, because they are so big and because you need to spend a lot of time in them walking and enjoying its music. They aren't themeparks, but huge places to explore.
5. Community. All of the above make that communities from a lot more natural. Grouping up feels more natural, because it's not for 30 seconds, the time to zerg a worldboss and zip out of the zone.

even TBC is pushing it, just keep vanilla...people are fucking morons man...the expansions themselves are what change the game little by little. leading to bfa. FUCK man. people cant be happy with just vanilla they go OHHHH THERES GONNA BE NO MORE CONTENT!!!! NO SHIT!!!! constant content changes ruined the game in the first fucking place. The hate wow gets is from vet players only I think, because I started playing a couple months ago and I'm having a blast, there's so much shit to do, mounts, transmog ect. But I can see there point of view considering how long they have been playing
