Bought cotton sheets for like 10-20 bucks each and they'r fairly rough. If I look at them there's very visible gaps between the threads.
Out of enthusiasm of their cheapness I bought too many of them. In the end now I'm looking to get something more comfortable.

You lost me on thread count. I love a good quality 200 count percale cotton sheet! If it's microfiber (microplastics) with a high thread count, it means zero.

I have little to no knowledge of fabrics and I'm willing to bet I could feel a $300 sheet and a $40 wrinkled polyester sheet and tell you which one feels more expensive...

I keep trying to find good sheets. It seems like the game is to get you to spend as much as possible on low quality sheets by using meaningless bed sheet terms. No stores seem to even offer high quality cotton sheets.

My brands are Matteo and Frette. I will also downgrade for an interesting print on a duvet, with the understanding that it cannot last, as long as it doesn't touch my skin.
