Without vsync, you are getting screen tears. Without vsync, you're getting either so much tearing you can't notice, or just barely enough so there's one big consistent line on your screen. Turn vsync on. Try adaptive vsync in the nvidia control panel, it disables vsync if you fall below your refresh rate.

So what if warzone for example is a 60 fps game
I have my Xbox at 120 fps , and my monitor at 120 fps should I lower both settings to 60
Is it going to make it worse

Uncapping fps in recent years can cause some less than desirable hardware errors do to poor optimization.

Vsync should be turned on when your system overpower your monitor or the games shows way higher fps that your monitor can handle. Otherwise the game crashes all the time.

Turning on vsync helps me reduce stuttering because cpu is not 100% overloaded especially when driving at high speed in gta v, far cry 4....cpu loads almost 100% and stuttering occurs. Turning on vsync helps to reduce frame tearing, reduce the work of cpu, gpu, ram.... and it also reduces temperature, reduces stuttering. I always lock 3A games at 60fps, and shooters like csgo at 144fps according to the screen.

If you don't have a Gsync or Freesync display, turn that Vsync on. If you wanna get competitive and want it off, just buy a G/FreeSync display

With that said, my freesync display is tearing so badly. I cap my frame rate, disable Vsync, and it just tears so badly. Image just looks VERY wiggly. I have VRR enabled in Windows, FreeSync/VRR enabled in AMD app, and FreeSync enabled manually for my games. Yet it tears so badly anyways. IDK how to fix it

That's why Gsync is generally a lot better, it doesn't have the drawbacks of super low FPS that vsync has. But monitores with it are usually a lot more expensive sadly

I literally get screen tearing in every single game I play. I've tried everything by trial and error on a 120hz gsync tv and regular 60hz monitor. I find it interesting that no one can give a simple tutorial how to completey remove screen tearing without using vsync. And I'm beginning to realize they either ignore the stuttering or weird inconsistent visual flow of frames and input latency that always comes when vsync is off. I'm yet to get a consistent gameplay like a ps5 with gsync off or be shown how to do so.

I'd get rid all of these new tech amd bring back the old tech just for game replayability. Games are not fun these days...just looks good😢

Okay, that makes sense. I looked it up bc with it on I’m capped around 140 frames on most games but with it off, I’m pulling around 380-450 depending on the game. I’d gladly give up the extra frames if it’s something I really need on, but it doesn’t sound like I do

I always try to turn it on bcz my screen is at 60hz and while playing games on vsync off my gpu gets overheated and game lags, so i play on 60fps with no framedrops and overheating, if you guys have any other solution for overheating please suggest me.

still surprised that still, no one mentions here in the comment that using vsync is only effective (to avoid latency) when used with gsync and cap the frame rate 1-2 fps below your monitor rated hz capacity.

So little tip just get a gsync compatible monitor. It has the same effect as vsync but with no delay added.

Its a surprise he didn't mention another downside of V-sync, a small delay between input and action. Since V-Sync attempts to synchronize the frames so they don't appear split, it does so by waiting a very small amount of time to display a correct, tear-less image, and that delay can be felt for fast games.

If you want responsiveness, for competitive games, turn it off. Better to have a visual annoyance than be a few frames in the past, screwing up your inputs

Vsynch can also be super practical if the game either has FPS Uncapped limit or 60 FPS. If you have a 120hz monitor you can enable v-sync to lock it to 120 fps without external tools and such.
