Well, her father was right, misery does not strenghten marriage. Still, marrying for eating is worse.

I would classify this as a Romance, not a Drama. Full of tropes; a bit too predictable and tiresome for me.

I really enjoyed this movie... A time when life was simpler and more connected to nature. A very beautiful connection made with the greenwood tree , the seasons..
Also we cannot judge the choice Fancy Day made.. every one is different. She had her own perspective of looking at life. Everyone has different priorities.

The school teacher should have married the vicar

Its a much harder read when you are 16 and its on your exam course .The dialect was hard to understand .Nevertheless, Hardy wrote great stories which I appreciate now that Im much older .He tackled some difficult issues in his day .

Enjoyed the film, but, in the final sequence at the wedding there was a bowl of Granny Smith’s green apples that most definitely were not English apples. They weren’t even known at the time. Get the small details historically correct.

Lovely story set in a country village. It takes us back in time to see those who worked the fields, attended church, and knew their place from the more wealthy. The question that arises is does one follow their heart and marry for love or for a secure life with money. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did..
