Unfortunately, many comments absurdly exaggerate the importance of the Normans. The Normans actually achieved nothing. They hung around in Italy for 200 years and ultimately didn't achieve anything. This was generally the case with the Scandinavians. No matter whether they were Vikings or Normans. They were ultimately insignificant and did not permanently colonize anything. Vikings or Normans were the losers of history.
