Thanks to Jeroen for letting us film inside his home: and please remember, if you're ever nearby, that these are homes and not a tourist attraction!

I'm dutch, born in Helmond so I knew about the cube houses, never knew these spherical houses existed. I'd love to see more of a housetour.

"man was not meant to live in a box."

"OK... but do you think you should maybe tell all the furniture companies and white goods designers that as well? Cos otherwise all those right-angles and straight lines they like using are going to be a serious pain in the arse." 🤔

Apparently Brazil had a similar phase of spherical buildings, but it didn't really take off. There are still a few houses near me, but they've all been adapted and enlarged with more traditional squarish extensions

"Humans were not meant to live in boxes"
Creates spherical houses, divides them into boxes anyway

They do look very distinct at least. Although just thinking about how much of a pain it must be to do maintenance to them makes it obvious why the government wasn't interested in doing more houses with that shape.
BTW that's one chunky cat, unless they're pregnant their owners should consider putting them on a diet asap.

Near where I used to live there was a big spherical house that looked almost like a rock. It was a big sphere and the exterior made it look almost like a giant rock with windows. I used to ask my dad to take us by it nearly every time we drove past when I was a kid. I think it’s gone now but I looked on apple maps on my phone and it looks like you can still see the foundation of it. It’s hard to tell as it’s in a wooded area, and since it originally looked like a rock it’d be even harder to see if it was still up.

For anyone curious here’s the coordinates to what I believe is the foundation from where it was. Idk if someone knows how to look at old scans from google maps to see if you can go back years ago to when it was still standing or not, but here’s where it was.

It's ok to say humans weren't meant to live in boxes, but it's not ok to follow it with 'therefore we are meant to live in tiny spheres.'

That house design would make more sense in an exoplanetary colony. As it would be easy to manufacture and reassemble.

Oh man, it looks like tiny houses except from 1940’s. Even the windows open on a swivel, meaning half of each circle opens inward to take up more space. Yikes.

The best thing about them is that they're built around grass and trees rather than roads and asphalt. But there's no reason we couldn't do the same thing with traditional housing.

Cat! Also, it's too bad about the heat, the leaks, and especially the stairs (a lot of people I know can't do stairs). At least we see an honest, non-staged look at what an interior is like though.

Just from a practical aspect... squared furniture, round walls. WHY did he put all the plumbed rooms at the TOP of the house? Could you imagine having to run up three flights of steps to go to the bathroom?
And that's not even bringing up residents with limited mobility....

Any handyman will tell you curved anything is a nightmare to maintain and repair, and spheres curve around 2 axes simultaneously. But the biggest impediment is the door and window problem: Have you ever seen a square window somehow crammed on a spherical wall? Looks awful. They solved the door problem somewhat by having an arched door through the base cylinder.
