I think with cloyster and koffing in america, they thought it made sense to make the sprites the way they did. The reason we're used to the other sprites is because of the art based on them.

Also TBH igglybuff never struck me as cute. it struck me as not taking in the most prominent features of jigglypuff even though it's the prevo.

The original Vileplume ones are just leaning towards the viewer, nothing actually wrong with the sprites, Mankey looked fine. 3x Vileplume is on here unnecessarily, how do you not understand angles?! Lugia's body is behind it, Ho-oh's below, again, angles.

even when blown up to HD instead of viewed on a DS screen, i really love gen 5s animated sprites.
its uncanny how alive and characterful they managed to make these picelart images. i wish these more interesting animations translated to the 3D model era instead of generic idle head bobbing animations.

My headcanon for the Weezing sprites is that they're not a uniform species and just sort of fuse together in different spots. One of the dex entries says that two Koffing can fuse together over many years, and I don't imagine that happens in the same place every time.

ngl i noticed a lot of the weird errors mentions while recolouring garchomp's gen v sprite; pixels becoming weirdly warped and breaking the outline (in unnecessary ways might i add- it looks like genuine overlooked errors) pixels jumping around into different areas of colour, and most notably the arm spikes straight up clipping through the forearms.
don't get me wrong, i love the gen 5 sprites, it was just really weird and kind of annoying while working on it lmao. if u wanna dissect the animation from any of your favourite mons, pokencyclopedia has sprites from every gen available, and Piskel is a free pixel art webtool that you can use to look at the frames individually :)

i also strongly agree with the saturation issue- some of my favourite shinies almost completely lose my interest in 3d form due to the horrible colour balancing on the models :(

Aight... I'll agree Gen 5's sprites can look odd at times, but when viewed on the original screens, they look much better. Plus, the battles feel more alive because real animals MOVE. So the moving sprites make them feel more like actual creatures that COULD exist in real life.

that's why i LOVED black and white with dinamic sprits because i hated SOO MANY pokemons with horrible sprites. Specially those that the behind sprite just looked horrible.

When I played Pokémon crystal I kept catching all of the pidgey I saw because the normal sprite has an orange beak and I thought they were all shiny 😂

another coloration change from gen 2 was shiny rapidash. It's flames were originally purple but they are now the gray that we are used to.

all the gen 1 and 2 GBC sprites are simply awesome, just a little weird

Pidgey's sprite in Red and Blue also looks more like a real life robin than the pidgey in artwork.

I think he critiques the spinoff Pokemons 3d models a bit too much like 3d games were still just now being made then like look at other non Pokemon games for example made around the same time with 3d sprites I thing he was expecting the models to be way more smoother but c'mon give them some slack this was new and revaluationary for game

I genuinely never noticed or cared about the Gen 5 sprites. They look FINE in-game, because you're not supposed to be focusing on all the pixel placements.
