Lovely
ОтветитьI truely love this aesthetic but I have to sadly say that there is still something about it that is appropriating: romani women's... uhh... vibe I guess or at least the perception society has of them. Witchy with big skirts and mysterious... anything "boho" really since the bohemian aesthetic itself was born out of mainstream society copying a specific group of romani who lived in this area called bohemia... unless I'm remembering wrong but I'm pretty sure that anything bohemian is just white people cosplaying romani people to be "free spirited" and "spiritual and witchy". Sad that all nice things seem to just be this, I know ):
ОтветитьI really like your analysis of the aestetic. Covid, idealizing the everydaylife, nature, the power. I love it!
Ответитьthat figurine you have on top of your mic, I had the exact same toy when I was a kid. I remember it so vividly - this video is the first one that I clicked when searching for whimsical styles!
ОтветитьThis makes me smile, I’ve dressed like this since high school….in the 70’s. Of course our denim was bell bottom back then. I’m white haired now (but it’s still long). For many years I was “out of style” but this is just me. I sew so I’ve always made my own clothes.
ОтветитьThe whimsigothical interior trends are also to die for, I think. Love to be weird on purpose!
ОтветитьI am so glad this is come back and I love your hair
ОтветитьI don’t have the bag, do have the jacket…,❤
ОтветитьLove your channel! I have no idea how I landed here, so glad I did. ❤😊❤ subbed.
I'm 53 and have been rocking this look happily since 1988. Workhas to be suits and corporate for now.
PS Love the fluffy hat.
PPS Am in MD, its 23 October still to hot to layer. Luckily flying back to Ireland in a week, bring on the scarves, layers, hats and fun. ❤
I finally have a name to my aesthetic since the late 90s, haha! I'm 42 and have been dressing and decorating (especially) this way since I was a late teenager. I'm just so thankful to see a more variety with sizes. It was so hard back then to find clothing that would fit my 5'10 self.
Ответитьobsessed w the hamtaro mic 🥺
ОтветитьIt's also very age inclusive. I can see a 10 year old girl playing with this as well as older 60+ women ( who pioneered it in the first place) and everyone in between. They will all look great and make it suit their lifestyle.
Ответитьi call whimsigoth my pandora lovegood era
ОтветитьI dressed like this as a teen in the 10s without knowing it had a name! Tryna go back to it.
ОтветитьI had one of those bags 🤭
Ответитьits popular rn bc saturn is in pisces lets get into itttttt (edit: /j)
ОтветитьLove the first two outfits, I have a purse just like that. 8 also love the last outfit you had on during the analysis
ОтветитьAs a person who usually wears this aesthetic I love the style ✨ 🌙
ОтветитьFirst outfit cute. Seems more y2k to me. The more you accessories, the more I didn't like. I'm all about mismatch and all..but it got a lil too crazy!
ОтветитьSo glad I found this video. You did such a great job describing this aesthetic, and formulaically listed all the elements Ive been looking for separately. Been struggling with gender identity stuff, and whimsygoth has really been the only way I can dress lately that feels gender affirming. Has a lot of feminine elements, but a lot of it feels more gender neutral for me. I think the gender neutral energy for me comes from grounding the aesthetic in nature/ earth/ celestial elements like stones, (faux) fur, plants, sun and moon motifs, etc. keeping my outward presentation connected with nature makes me feel most like myself, and less pressure to conform to gender norms that don’t quite fit 🪨 🌱 🦔 🌞 🪐 🌙 ⛰️
Ответитьhere to tell you i own The Bag(TM) and it's two metres away from me at this very moment
ОтветитьThis is EXACTLY what I wanted/thought I looked likr as a elementary/middle schooler. Absolutely ADORE experimrnting with layering, patterns, and flowy figures!! I just am a tad hesitant as a mid to plus sized queer gendered individual...... However, I can't wait to see it grow as gen Z starts to really dive into it 🎉
ОтветитьHow many more words are there going to be to describe hippie fashion? Because that's essentially what this is.
ОтветитьI’ve seen lots of people saying they don’t care about this cultural appropriation, the problem is when people wear things to making fun of
ОтветитьMy takeaway from this video is that women never tire of dressing as witches.
ОтветитьWoot, I'm gong back to my teen/early 20s years again. I never left this fashion and I still dress like this, however, being in my late 40s, I tend to go for smaller patterns, as it's supposed to make your body look smaller and more dresses as it hides my belly lol
ОтветитьSo was Marnie's Grandma's from Halloween town one?
ОтветитьAh yes, this takes me back to my teens. I was a teen in the mid to late 90's and I have some pieces in wardrobe that would go in well with this aesthetic. I am so glad.
ОтветитьFun fact: Stevie Nicks and Helena Bonham Carter share a bday...
ОтветитьFirst, super fun video, loved all the information! I'm most impressed with the seamless audio across multiple takes! Great production quality!
ОтветитьAs someone who lived through the first iteration of this trend in the 90s, here was the whimsiigoth uniform that I remember: Dark Marten boots with heavy tights, something like velvet or layers of socks and tights...those witch legs get cold riding on brooms. Also stripey socks of course and cat/bat/spider web themes as prints on socks all year long, not just Halloween, A skater skirt or mini dress with a skater skirt, a black mesh top with a black tank top layered over it, jewelry: those crystal ball necklaces on a piece of silky string instead of a chain and Victorian style earrings and rings (with lots of blown glass beads and detailed metal/scrollwork on a silver colored metal of some kind). Black was the basic color but lots of jewel tones paired with black. The elements that looked "off" to me in your outfits were things like denim/chambray/patchwork and the head scarf. All of those things fit into "hippie, granola, bohemian etc. Of course things evolve so it's interesting to see one trend get absorbed into another...
Ответитьoh come on! cultural appropriation?
ОтветитьMy aesthetic 🫶🏾🤭 also just subscribed because your energy is so cute but also when you called out the potential cultural appropriation and 2010s boho trend lol
ОтветитьThis is what old cat ladies dress like
ОтветитьI'm always down for dressing like Stevie Nicks or Phoebe Buffay!
ОтветитьI never realized there was a word for the way I dressed! Thank you! New sub! 🌙 🤗
ОтветитьI came for the fashion tips. I stayed for the based sociology.
ОтветитьSo cool! Love this video and your content! 😁
ОтветитьI have just found this video. It is brilliant, just my style, only thing is I am an Apple Shape 5’3” 61 year old crone. I love this style but i am afraid of making a mistake. Please can you advise me 😊😊
ОтветитьI deeply appreciate this video.
ОтветитьAlso I have loved this it popped up randomly.. thank you ! A side note Paisley is Indian , I dont see cultural appropriation being an issue I mean I used to wear full on Sari style clothes and still do its not offensive.
NOT to open a can of worms :)) but where will it end we all appropriate from cultures of the older generations anyway and humanity is one family, its ok to be inspired and share,
That purple sparkle top you are modelling is exactly the same as one i wore a lot in the 90s , but it was muted green ditsy floral with a matching flippy hem bias skirt. LUSH I originally got it to see the 90s Indie kings "JAMES "Always out for live music and proper less corporate festivals and real raves.
the whole aesthetic evolved out of us Trad goths becoming grunge rockers/ and having no money. In my experince,
And wanting to feel feminine and powerful.
I recently put a few pieces on a well known app. They all still fit I just dont go out so much any more. And imagined someone like yourself just getting into the lifestyle would benefit from them.
I have never really changed my style friends say I am exactly the same, and I am blessed I have always been slim and youthful . I went veg in 94 and vegan 4 years ago , i do a lot of yoga . I am a professional Tarot reader and healer . I geuss what was once so unusual has become stereotypical . LOL`s ....ENJOY LIFE its meant to be enjoyed <3xxx
I have been dressing like this all my adult life. I must be in fashion for once. I am 53 on the Solstice.
ОтветитьI just want to scream how gorgeous your handmade patchwork dress is.
AAAAAAAAAAAH STUNNING!!!
Thank you, I’m done
I love velvet, eeer velveteen? Whatever, I love it. 💖
ОтветитьAs someone who was in her 20's in the early 90s - and was a Riot Grrrl, I was also expressly "witchigothic" (still am - mostly). You had a lot good valid points. Some you that that you missed or weren't quite as I remember them (read: subjective - we all have our own perspective, this is mine). You missed the opportunity to layer in tights and/or leggings. These were go-tos... there weren't a lot of bare legs (bellies - yes, shoulders - yes, bozums - yes). Also, while media was skinny girl focused - I can assure you that us curvier girls were definitely on board with this look. Wicca and goddess culture (girl power) was a big part of that time. Lots of missteps by today's standards (i.e. appropriation wasn't something really talked about yet) and of course, much experimentation (like every generation). I think my only other "catch" was there was a LOT less lighter colors than you brought out in your stylings. But that could be where my line between the the "witchy" verusus the "granola" side of that time ended up. I tended to darker colors in fashion but lighter colors in my environment. Anyhoo -- nice synopsis. It's always interesting to see how younger folk view the world as it was when I was their age .... and how our perspectives / opinions align and diverge. :)
ОтветитьYou are so darling and you have so much knowledge. But, the way you style is like a street person look … just a hodgepodge of what you can grab. Not good. I’m sorry. No.
