Is tensioning the belt correctly important?

Is there something that would cause new belts to squeak? I had car checked over last November for winter. They said both belts needed replaced, new battery and tires. The belt was not squeaky ever before they were replaced. It started squeaking right away, I took it back to them multiple times, it still squeaked. Then I was on the highway and the belt broke off completely, antifreeze drained and I had to get a tow home. I had a different mechanic, friend of my brother fix it. He replaced both belts again and the battery. It is now squeaking every once in a while if I turn on the air conditioning too soon after starting. But recently started squeaking for a few miles of driving. He has checked the tightness and said it was good? Also started having trouble starting before the first replacement belt broke. Wouldn’t start on the first try, after driving anywhere. Had my brothers friend check it and he said needed a starter, changed it, still the same. He just replaced spark plugs , fuel injectors and fuel filter 2 weeks ago, still doing the same thing.

That's alot of work for no reason. No one can do this that's a mechanics job.

I would take the chance of getting stranded first then fix it. Save big. Thanks scotty.

2007 Honda CRV , changed the serpentine belt now the engine won’t start , took belt off and it fires up. AC is definitely bad on the car could it be the compressor pulley causing the belt to not allow the engine to crank?

When you buy one from advanced auto they will print out a diagram for the belt. It shows exactly how it goes on.

I don't an inference engine I wish they weren't a thing or some safety feature I still have a fan clutch on my truck 1 st gen tundra and 2nd gen taco was the last truck for toyota with fan clutch I believe could be wrong

Well done butt Mr. Scotty should mention that not all vehicles will be identical in terms of stuff like the socket size needed for the tensioner, etc. The way it's portrayed in the video kind of suggests it is.

As a first timer attempting to replace a drive belt, the photograpy and explanation in this video is so fast and so unclear that it is totally unhelpful.

(tiny cracks) throughout the 'working' surfaces,
does that indicate time to change or do they have

I put a new belt on a 2012 Ford transit connect minivan today drove it for an hour. It worked fine took it out to drive this evening and the belt popped off. What happened? Why did it do this? How can I correct this?

Just had my 2018 Honda fit in for an oil change. It has 63,000 km and the dealer is insisting on changing the drive belt and replace the cabin air filter with a Honda belt and filter. They insist that the drive belts need to be changed every 60,000 km. I checked the belt; almost no cracks or signs of wear. The filter is Fram that catches pollen, etc.

Torque wrench - the most invaluable tool you can get.
You want to put the sump nut back without mashing the sealing washer because you went full he-man? Torque wrench.... You want to ensure tyres are on safety, torque wrench. If you want to avoid overtightened oil filters... Torque wrench. Buy a good one - don't skimp on it. Seriously, a good one will last decades and decades
