Alina & The Darkling - Shadow & Bone

Me heading to ao3 to pretend he didn't just die, and that he and Alina didn't have a happy ending.

this couple gave me such a bittersweet feeling because of everything they COULD be. There are so many parallels in their dynamic that could be so relevant to the story like:
1-the fact that darkness is not a thing and it only ever exists because there is an absence of light. So Aleksander would be absolutely smitten by her presence for that reason and also think he would become obsolete to Ravka because of her, creating not only a reverence towards Alina, but also a resentment for the fact that he now sees himself as useless. HOWEVER she could never shine bright without darkness, meaning they both need one another in peaceful coexistence for the nation to thrive.
2-they could represent the sentiment of duality in racial conflicts, like it is in X-Men/Malcolm X & MLK. One has a very violent and divisive solution and the other tries the peaceful and conciliatory method, but the story could show that both have their problems.
3-it could give us more of the Russian pragmatism and tragedy in personal relationships when they're in a power struggle, like it is with the book Deathless, by Catherynne Valente. I would just love if they DIDN'T stay together, but rather gravitate toward one another, like a curse that the other can never quite get rid of.

But it seemed like the story was too focused on villifying Aleksander as an end goal and then none of this would actually be possible.

Btw before the series i read books and trust me the chemistry which is between in darkling and alina was not between in mal and alina. We love the bad one and that sounds crazy. but he was not bad man against to only alina. That was enough. Yeah I know he killed too many blameless people but he had a strong reason. He did everything for grishas. To live. To stay alive without fear.

Think whatever you want but in my opinion he didnt deserve this kind of end. Not talking about the series. Everbody who read the books understood what I am talking about.

The main issue with the Grishaverse is even though the author intended Darkling to be a villain, she ended up making him an anti-hero who elicits more sympathy than disgust.

i prefer darklina ship then malina because, darklina has a lot of chemistry, he asked for consent when kissing her, he's always there for her, hes always kind to her and hes always protective of her, on top of that, he calls her 'My Alina' or 'My Little Saint', he was also at peace when he was with Alina . Mal on the other hand, doesnt have that much of chemistry, he just kissed her, when the fold was teared down, mal just said he wanted a break and left her alone. Alina and Darkling is such a great couple

If the makers of TVD can change plot of the book and chnge the final ship that is the endgame then why Shadow And Makers cannot do the same? If Damon can be forgiven and can be loved then why not Darkling? I mean Darkling was not at all evil, he was an innocent man, circumstances forced him to become what he is today but still he never hurts his people. He surely deserves love and forgiveness. ❤

He keeps saying that him and Alina are the only ones that powerful and can live that long but what about bagrah?
Also he could have had all of that relationship but he wasn’t open enough with her.She definitely would have accepted his faults if he would have told her.

How about this for Season 3: Darkling is resurrected and he and Alina have a magical baby that Mal can marry in like 18 years.

I'm sorry, but I wanted to smack him when he said, 'Fine. Make your villian.' Like a gosh dang drama King! Boy! 😆 Nobody really made or forced you to do all those horrible things to Alina and her loved ones. YOU made or chose to be the villian yourself, babes. Whatever other reaction were or are you expecting from her or anyone for that matter?! Happiness, gratitude?! Get outta here with that, smh! 🤣

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be so serious and ruin anyone's fantasizing or fun. But I'm not much one for toxic romances or relationships because that's what this is, truly. The show or story is good but they really do promote these kinds of relationships in our entertainment. When you really look or see it for what it is, you wise up or realise you don't want or should be fantasizing about relationships like Mal and Alina or Genya and David. It's still fine or ok to have some fun with it but that's it. Not become too obsessed, in my humblest opinion. Just my critique, take it as you will.
