Why Isn't USB Wireless?

Something tells me I'm far from the only person that has never heard of WiDi.

How come everything requires a battery? Are we trying to lower consumption and our carbon footprint?

Wireless USB C might not use Wi-Fi because it is too slow for sending graphics data to the latest VR devices which also needs to be able to receive the higher bandwith signals in whatever format it is.

If anyone knows of a good wireless USB dongle let me know. I need one for my set up but as this video shows... They never really caught on

Why have a USB stick with a battery that you had to charge every N days when your WiFi enabled phone was already there circa 2005. With a couple of free NAS/SAN options being so popular at that time turning on your WIFI on the phone and connecting the home lan or personal VPN you would connect to your home NAS with far more storage. Probably just as convenient since most of the apps at that time cached your credentials so it became 'one click', two if you had VPN.

I'm sure there's got to be a product for what I want. I want a wireless USB hub. I don't care if I have to use a dongle. But does this product exist and where?

What I want is a usb dongle that plugs into my pc, that's wirelessly connected to a usb hub somewhere else that gets power from the wall. So I can say have a usb keyboard as a htpc

Bluetooth is Wireless USB. Bluetooth is simply a wireless serial port.

There is still a need for Wireless USB for anyone that uses corporate VPN that isolates their network looses their WiFi devices. Printer manufactures should sell wireless dongles.

Point of order, both my wireless laptop, and my wired PC, are using ethernet. Ethernet is a signalling protocol, not a medium. My laptop uses Wi-Fi, my wired computer uses twisted pair. Specifically cat6a UTP. Do you can absolutely do ethernet protocol signalling over non copper non twisted pair.

Before you people start making wireless this and wireless that, make a goddamn wireless 360 degrees charging. Wireless sounds great untill your battery runs out in the middle of something important.

i wish i can use my wired usb c earphones, keyboard and controller and turn them wireless even if the distance isn't much but still helpful

because pushing power through the air is hard. For peripherals that mostly stay in place, like speakers, keyboards, even mice, not having to power them with batteries is nice.

I really don't understand how all those are replacements. Am I supposed to connect my Maud over wifi? Now we have dongels for all that rabdome shit. Plus you wanna transfer data between two devices? Not goan happen. Cloud storage is not a replacement for that. How is spending hours waiting on a upload and a download plus having to heave it in the first place an adequate replacement?
And bloothth still is extremely bad to this day. Bandwidth and delay are hirable and it is extremely buggy. Yes seidnign a file over blototh is something you can basically forget.
Only option is often a USB stick and that kidna sucks.

Wireless USB would be extremely usefully TODAY not to mention 20 years ago.

There are wireless usb. Most of the time now they are cyber sec tools aimed towards pen testers

Why would it be? Wireless is nice, but it's only good for data transfer. USB is also about power delivery which you really can't do wirelessly except for very specific cases.

1) If USB was wireless it would not be a serial bus (universal serial bus).
2) bluetooth and wifi cover wireless needs.
3) wired communications are more secure and more reliable.

Bullshit they did not bring tat technology because of the cable manufacturers dont buy that wireless connectivity is slow it just depends on that port you are connecting the device most of the build in devices on motherboards have usb connectivity why because it is a serial port even today they use the usb even if thunderbolt is way faster well it is pci-e protocol
