Great video Barry! And i'm not sure if it's the shirt or anything else, but you look like you've lost some weight. Good for you!
Ответить"Dip the lettuce into mayo" I can't see that ever being easier than spreading it on bread omg lol
ОтветитьDespite being annoying to make, I love club sandwiches there's just something about chicken, bacon and a bunch of other random stuff between 3 pieces of bread.
ОтветитьA classic club sandwich is my favorite sandwich, definitely taking the hot vinegar peppers
Ответить"I'm gonna plus this with the most Chicago thing imaginable... I'm gonna dip it... in Malort!"
ОтветитьGiardiniera is always a great plus up but with all of the tomato plants growing in the Chicago area I can't believe they would leave a couple of slices of tomato off that sandwich… baffles me
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьSo when did someone get the bright idea to just use mayo on the bread? I get that commercial mayo is different from home made, but dipping lettuce is just plain weird. I think whoever started putting mayo on the bread should be hailed as the true inventor of the sandwich.
ОтветитьI have no idea why I find this so fascinating but I do. Subscribed.
ОтветитьSounds pretty good. Thought the PU was going to be a tomato - how boring am I?! Love your idea. Reminds me, need to make some giardiniera soon.
ОтветитьId plus this up by putting level one also on level two (chicken and bacon times 2)...and obviously more mayo. The giardeniera cant hurt though....that stuff is awesome.
ОтветитьI have 0 evidence but I'm going to guess the massive Irish diaspora in Chicago means the rye bread makes it Chicago. {Oh, I meant to add that so many Irish ended up in Chicago it affected the local accent in the way we say some vowels slightly off from standard Midwest} The giardiniera was a great idea
ОтветитьI'll bet they dipped the lettuce in house made mayo which was thinner and really coated the leaf.
ОтветитьLooks delish!!!
ОтветитьI could think of simpler ways to make this better. If it's too dry, smear both sides of the rye bread with mayonnaise instead of dipping the lettuce. Also, I would add tomato because I like tomato on club sandwiches.
ОтветитьDipping the lettuce in mayo is a weird move. If anything the chicken is the thing causing dryness. Why not dip them bad boys in the mayo?
ОтветитьTotally read "Chicago Cubs". I lived there for a while and it is very much hotdogs and chee-burger chee-burger. The plus up is niiiiiice.
ОтветитьFirst one of these sandwiches I would actually like to eat (with some modifications)!
ОтветитьWow, Barry, you idiot, it's CLEARLY pronounced "giardiniera", not "giardiniera". Yeesh. ;-)
ОтветитьI just went to one of those big box stores: now I have a half gallon of mayo and a gallon of hand soap, what do I need to plus this up?
Ответить*SPOILERS*
Jumpscare at the end 😱
If you read our comments, please make a video on the muffuletta recipe. It is the ultimate sandwich from New Orleans, piled high with Italian meats, cheese, and a homemade spicy olive salad.
ОтветитьMore mayo, please!
Ответитьinteresting one
ОтветитьIn the Chicago area, we just call giardiniera "hot peppers" to avoid the debate over who's saying it right. Everybody already knows how to say jalapeño, habanero, etc, so we can still call those by name. If you ask for hot peppers, you're getting the peppers/carrot/onion that has been marinated in olive oil.
ОтветитьI didn't know hot giardiniera existed. Must get.
ОтветитьI think the giardiniera was a good choice but that also really needs tomato
ОтветитьThis sandwich is good even by modern standards
Ответить"Dip the lettuce in the mayo" has some real "I need to make this unique to me somehow so I can copyright this recipe" energy.
ОтветитьAnother home run! Gunna try it +ed up.
ОтветитьThe dark ages before spreading mayo onto bread had been invented. Sure, it seems so obvious to us now but it's one of those things that's easy to take for granted. There was lots of experimentation back then, resulting in many false starts and evolutionary dead ends in sandwich engineering. Just as Edison is said to have failed 999 times before arriving at a working light bulb, so too did these early sandwich pioneers try all manner of mayonnaise application. There was slathering mayo onto the meat itself. Baked mayo rounds. Mayo-injected bread. One radical innovator, hypothesizing the existence of a sort of primitive mayonnaise consciousness, even tried giving the condiment a stern lecture about applying itself. Yep, we sure have come a long way.
ОтветитьChicago what now?
ОтветитьOf course it's dry. They put the mayonnaise on the lettuce instead of the bread.
ОтветитьThis actually looks quite tasty and recognizable to me, I think I'll make this 🙂
ОтветитьI need to find some of that giardiniera, that looks right up my alley.
I think I'd have gone a little more mayo and a slice of some kinda cheese. I'm partial to provolone so maybe that. But that's a lot of flavor so possible something more mild like a munster.
Dip in mayo is an interesting way of doing it haha. Weve come so far
ОтветитьI really miss the tid bits of history facts and context you'd share before the sandwich making. Would love to see more of that again🤞
Ответитьnext time you make the plussed up version are you gonna do the whole lettuce dipping and rye bread between white bread things too?
ОтветитьI would have plused ut up with mayo
ОтветитьThere’s no tilde on the n (ñ) in habanero so you say it like a normal n
ОтветитьI might try this one next time I buy some chicken!
ОтветитьHaving the rye bread/toast in the middle seems weird, I'd spread mayonnaise on the bread and then maybe it would be less dry, add tomatoes, maybe avocado/guacamole
ОтветитьI was under the impression that the G is silent with that pepper mix. Anyone feel free to tell me if I've been saying it incorrectly!
ОтветитьI find these videos, extraordinarily interesting. Thank you very much for doing them. A small critique a little bit more history of the sandwich would kind of be interesting. Otherwise, good job thank you very much.
ОтветитьWhy don't you eat over a plate so you don't drop crumbs onto the floor?
ОтветитьBe generous to yourself (and the sammich) with that tasty mayo next time...the bacon and chicken require it, really. 😉
ОтветитьI understand a mid-west factor but it seems they're TRYING to be different, the pizza the dog ...the club?
ОтветитьI just found your channel and I'm glad you don't spend an hour talking about how the sandwich was created. I love short to the point videos.
ОтветитьLettuce dipped in mayonnaise seems like a weird way to put mayo on a sandwich.... why? Utensils were clearly an option.
ОтветитьOh yes, compote salad and pepporincinis!!
Id just add extra bacon and tomatoes
