I love dragonflies. They're one the main reason that the humans haven't gone extinct due to mosquito infestation.

That is only part of the story. The visual information must then be processed. How big is their brain and how fast are the connections?

Discussion, if humans can only see 60fps, how come we can tell the difference when playing a game at 60fps compared to 240fps? the difference in smoothness is really obvious.

So what I'm hearing is that gamers really are built different? Because they can see as many frames per second as they can afford to, much higher than 60

i was sitting on a stool working on some damage on the side of my truck. a large blue dragonfly flew up and hovered about 6" away from my face at eye level for what seemed like 7 or 8 seconds just looking in my eyes and i back at it then it flew off. it was curious and wanted a close up look into my eyes. it was soo big and beautiful and had such control of its flight. it was a wondrous experience for me and i will never forget it.

If dragonflies process visual information so quickly, how do we manage to catch them? What else is happening?

So I shouldn’t bother with a 120 or 240 Hz display because humans cannot see anything over 60 fps? Go home BBC, you’re drunk.

Today I saw a dragonfly for the very first time. I didn't even know these insects existed. The way it flapped its wings and changed positions in the air look so unnatural and robotic, to the point I thought someone was spying on me with some sort of a tiny high tech drone. It came near me while I was swiming in the open sea, checked me out for a few seconds, and as soon as I blinked it was already gone!!! I was so impressed I had to do a research on it and I'm glad I found this video. 😁

You say they see faster than we do.. But whenever A dragonfly sneaks into my house, I freak out.. Sometimes I take a broomstick and easily trap them and sweep them outside of my house.. They don't even act fast like you say.. Disgusting bugs

Not enough brain for the information to be spread out leading to a fast reaction. I noticed this in really tiny water spiders too.

Additional idea. The brain of a dragonfly is so small. That the cycle in the dragonfly brain happens quicker. Less paths and the information is closer.

They are fierce predators both in water and air, the most deadly predators with over 95% of success rate in their adult stage, no wonder they had little change over such a long time span, very much like crocodiles.

There are a couple of times I’ve experienced time this way. The most amazing was when I was in a near car accident- I was in a split second able to process everything around me and decide how to react to avoid a crash. I managed to spin the car around in a four way intersection after processing which was a safe lane to direct my car Intl with a combination of steering and hand brake. I have never driven fast, or experienced ‘Tokyo drift’ kind of driving but it was only because time felt like it slowed down to a fraction of the speed I normally experience it. The second was also a near car crash where there was a sudden pile up in right in front of me while I was on a two lane flyover bridge and i was able to spin the car around while avoid falling off and coming to a stop after spinning exactly 180 degrees. I drove off the bridge against on coming traffic and got off safely. I don’t know how to explain what happened in those moments but I was very very lucky both those times that it happened.

The only scenario when humans see 60 images per second, is if you're looking at a screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz. If we only saw 60 images per second, we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps.

The military drama tv series "The Unit' brought me here. I always thought the call sign "Snake Doctor" (used by one of the characters in the show) was very cool. My Google search indicates that "snake doctor" refers to dragonflies.
