The "fortress style" one, where "the home was the wall", that's the one for me! Perfect for the zombie apocalypse &/or your every day reclusive living
Id hope to have a larger courtyard area. Obviously that would never be possible in Japan.

Watching how the real estate market is being manipulated in favor of some persons, I’ll advise we venture into other marketing options and look for other ways to invest that will be favorable to us.

The rich neighborhood in Japan is like the rich neighborhood in the Philippines- actually. We call this neighborhood, "village".

In many countries architecture is used to shout about how rich and powerful you are. In Japan it is often used to hide wealth, create total privacy, and to turn its back onto the street. The very best of these even confuse you about where the entrance is! And that is why Frank Lloyd Wright was so successful in Japan (Honoured, in fact! His Hotel was the only building undamaged after the massive Tokyo earthquake!), and why many of his ideas were taken up in Japanese architecture. His influence is obvious across the country, even after the many decades since his death in 1953.

Japan has some strange ideas about zoning, but it does mean that buildings are not considered permanent, and as a result they are often cheaply built for a 30-year lifespan - after which its purpose will have changed, and so a new building goes up!

I admire Japan for many reasons, and one of them is because everywhere and everything is so clean. And the air is dirty. This in direct contrast to New Zealand, where we have rubbish all over the place, but the air is crystal clear, and fresh. Often visibility exceeds 200km! the truly baffles Japanese visitors to New Zealand who have never seen the Milky Way at night, and never been able to see an entire mountain range, and what's on the mountains.

Sadly the air quality in Japan means that colours are very washed out for most of the time. And I found this quiet depressing when I lived near Osaka many years ago. I found every Japanese person to be very friendly and helpful, everywhere I went - especially as a blonde-haired blue-eyed Caucasian. But not a place I would want to live, even if very wealthy.

Japan has a lot to offer, but not so much to an old disc golfer like me. :)

Fascinating, I could marvel at the stylings of these homes and neighborhoods for hours. I think it's an interesting reflection of Japan's cultural values, more quiet, reserved, private, and in harmony with the surroundings. Even middle class homes in the US are the opposite, the home facade and front gardens are a display of status and individualism. Only similar neighborhoods I can think of would be the Hollywood Hills, where homes can be deceptively large from street view, but I think that might be more out of necessity from the natural terrain and winding roads.

On the opposite side to the Mejiro JR train station, there used to be a gate community for foreigners. Not sure its still there? My memory as a child was that they were quite large. Would like to know if those houses are so there, even if the wall isn't.

Those "poor" area seems richer, cleaner and safter than average area in most of the other developed countries.
Real poor area is usually more dangerous, aggressive and depressing.
We have so much to learn from how Japanese people treat their society and their own life.

I love how the US implemented the rule of not accumulating generational wealth in Japan yet they do it themself driving the gap between poor and rich so monumental that even people who have work in the US have to use food stamps 🥴 this is from what I heard, I live in Europe so that’s a different story😅
