the Archer was also the Basis for the design of the Clan Omnimech the Mad Dog/Vulture.....the center Torso is almost exactly the same with the Cockpit being moved to the top of the Torso instead of the Center. The Legs were switched with reverse jointed ones to increases it's speed and the Arms were changed.

Great mech but i kind of prefer the catapult. You get just as many missiles plus jump jets and greater speed which means it can keep away from its enemies and better use those missile racks to their full effect.

4 med lasers with pin point targeting hits as hard as an AC/20. Aim true. Especially if you have upgraded them.

While im normally a "stick more flamers on it to solve the problem" kind of guy, i do appreciate mechs that use that philosophy for other weapon types lol.

Hello, I'd like to tell you about our Lord and Savior, Agincourt.

Surprised you didn't mention that the Archer can serve double duty as an industrial oven for the enterprising MechWarrior; serving up LRM death and Long Range Calzones on the same battlefield.

Absolutely a missle boat, very fun to play.

Archers are great at punching due to the tonnage. Well not great, but it feels great to punch out the knees of a mech in an Archer.

I would argue that the Archer is actually pretty well defended up close.

The medium lasers can fend away medium mechs and scare off the light ones but the most dangerous portion came from its punch and kicks.

Archers never had great cooling capabilities but had solid armor, sufficient ammo and retain its hand actuators to melee properly.

Sure 12 salvos might go mighty fast, but when you are brawling with your 7 point fisticuffs and 14 point kicks, CASE or no CASE, you do not want an ammo bomb in your body!

Best part? they work even if you are running hot.

I like the 2K variant. With two LRM15’s and two Large Lasers, it’s still a respectable fire support platform but with much deadlier point defense

Making it an SRM boat turns it into a nasty short range beater. Slap medium SP or SBs on it and you’ve got a nasty missile boat.

The Archer is as nearly flawless as mechs get in this universe. The LRM40 version has 4 medium lasers and is fully armored. The LRM30 version has SRMs added to its close range firepower. MW5 combat footage is gorgeous.

A bullet means it’s nothing personal, just war.
A salvo of missiles coming from an Archer means “Nah - fuck you.”

A great mech in mechwarrior 5 a favourite build is the shotgun build nothing but srms so anything gets close bamn it hits hard.

Love my archers, full lances of them linked to the recon elements are fantastic.

Good review, personality I don't really use them, they are way too heavy heavy and don't have the maneuverability I like. Plus when compared to the Catapult who admittedly has thinner armor, it's sheer versatility in weapons load outs means that you can really take your opponent off guard. The Archer aside from a variant or two never really breaks the mold, and as a fire support platform I'd rather value flexibility and maneuverability more than armor unless I expected it to come under fire

The Archer is my baby from table top. Stock it carries a lot of armor and packs ranged firepower that is difficult to rival. I've had Archers limp off the field under their own power while many, supposedly better, mechs lay in twisted ruins.

Eh? 4 medium lasers are anything but meagre armament for this tonnage, and for a mech otherwise specialised in long range combat is actually a pretty heavy salvo.

Dedicated brawlers, such as Cataphract sport 4x med las as their secondary armament. Or flankers, such as grasshopper.

The point is - quad medium laser is NOT a weak secondary armament, quite the contrary. It is generally sufficient to deal with most mediums and scare off light mechs.

Archer's flaw lies in heat management. It can lay down some massive missile volleys, but not persistently.

Do the Cyclops S. I run dual heavy cannons mid torso. It's been awhile since I've played so I don't remember if it was a 20 or a 40, but the heavy ones comparable with heavy rifle's.

The Archer is Great however I will always be a Catapult Main. It was my first Mech dating back to Mech Assault and it will always Hold a Spot deep in my Heart.

I drop the LRM's, max out the crits for SRM's, max the armor, and use the rest of the tonnage for ammo and heatsinks... plus CASE.
