I was a US Army serviceman stationed in Munich at this time. However, although I had seen many FC Bayern matches at the Olympisastadion , I somehow did not get tickets for this one. Who would have known that in just less than three years there would be no more Soviet Union? Still love and follow FC Bayern.

USSR was basically a Ukranian team. I love the Soviet kit so nostalgic. I actually had a similar shirt and one of the DDR that I bought at the Bulgarian Black Sea many years ago.

Best anthem in the world by a few hundred miles. Beautifully written, composed and instrumentally immortalised.
Another beautiful anthem was by the GDR, you may have disagreed with their systems, that's ok, but they were successful too in many things, such as classical music.
I was the only fella as a 12 year old in 1988 on my Gaelic Football club bus going across the ferry to play two GAA matches in County Clare here in Ireland on exactly the very day of the the Final, that was supporting the Soviets.
I was independent, different and proud as being the only one, out of 52 boys for doing so. To this day, it has stood to me.
I loved this Soviet team, uniting Lithuanians, Byelrussians, Russians, Georgians and Ukrainians especially as all one.
I loved their honesty and fair play.
