I think people REALLY underestimate the effect the subconscious has on our overall thought process. People laugh and say no because it's scary having something altering your decision making processes that you don't really have much control over.

When using the dollar sign symbol in the United States, it is always placed to the left of the amount specified, e.g. "$1". It is incorrect to put it after, but I assume the reason why some people do this is that it is how it is said (i.e. “500 dollars” and not “dollars 500”). It could also be a confusion as in many other countries ( and Quebec province, Canada) put the currency symbol after the number. Also, with the advent of social media, everyone communicates through writing, even those whose brilliance lie in fields other than proper use of monetary symbols, the error is repeated and absorbed by others.

These are used in that annoying salesman technique. Very general use in everyday things. From viewing and signing for an apartment to anything that can be purchased or sold to you. I experienced this many times and they all mostly fail, especially when I ask for more time to think about it. They do not seem happy about that, there was a landlord that even tried a few things to scam extra money, we got half of it back but it was super annoying. I ended up using his same trick against him, but also helped that I did a background check and seen he had major issues in his history with following rules.
I might fall for one or two things if I'm in a crazy rush or just gotten paid while in a good mood. I don't care for people that much and I only really buy things I need or am interested in. It also helps that I don't plan to stay in north america so buying large things isn't really an issue.
Best thing to do is just take a few minutes to a day to think about anything you are doing.
Did you ask other places about it? Look at reviews or other locations that could offer a better deal, is that product going to be useful to you or is it just something that looks nice to have? Could you find something better online?

oh, i remember motivational slogans and other tricks at work, h.r. at the comapny were into those things.
