Thank you so much for these type of videos. Fitness truths are what we need with less bs and this hits all points of what people need to hear, do and then try to figure out what works best with them!

I still have at least 50lbs to lose, but I’m in the gym and my strength feels like it’s almost doubled on many exercises, definitely am getting more defined, but it’s tough to get the amount of protein in you need and still be in a calorie deficit.

Bulking/cutting is definitely the fastest way to gain muscle, but I don't mind very slowly gaining muscle after newbie gains as long as I stay lean year round (especially cause I have no desire to be huge). I've never tried bulking cutting though so I might give it a shot someday.

The way I ReComp is by trying to stay the same wieght. 240lbs, 6’4 @ 19-23%bodyfat.
I eat in a caloric surplus of about 200-500 calories until I reach 245lbs THEN, Right back to maintenance Calories until I reach 240lbs. REPEAT. Each phase takes about a month 💪🏻😬

how cool would it be if there was a 100% accurate fat to muscle monitor you could use every morning to measure... i know there have been some gagets sold like a Tony little scale i bought 15 years ago that was BS imo...But i am sure one day there will be an inexpensive device that will be spot on...

Hi Dr. MIKE, I hope you read this since I am posting this to a 2 year old video. I am wondering if you would be willing to do a video on the Carnivore Diet, or some form of it. I used to be a religious lifter, just for personal health. And then I went to work in the oilfield 13 years ago and lifting went out the door; I was working so hard 16 to 18 hours a day and lifting on top of work was too much. I worked 340 to 350 days a year to make things worse. Over time my eating habits went to total shit and ove 13 years I gained 60 pounds, yep I turned into a fat ass! 2 years ago I was on a oil frac tank when it exploded. Both of my legs got broke up really bad. My left leg broke in over 100 pieces. My leg had a compound fracture and broke I 6 place. I am still not walking without a walker or crutches. I just purchased a Smith machine because my gym is packed away in storage. I have 1 more surgery left to go before the have done all they can do. Also I developed type 2 diabetes while I was out in the oil patch. The surgeon told be he will not do the last surgery until my A1c is in the low 6 range. I have always used a version of the carnivore diet to drop weight coupled with lots of fat and 50 grams of carbohydrates or less. I would like you to produce a video giving your scientific view and your tweak. I would really appreciate it. Thank you brother. Also I am coming up on age 62. I was built well and could bench 400 + and yes I used special supplements.

I was thinking that gaining lots of strength is better than gaining simply muscles. So, if I lose body fat and gain lots of strength (without necessarily growing any muscle size), I'll be more than happy.
Moreover, I know that strength alone will make anyone look amazing. I looked at too many gymnasts to know that. Gymnasts never strive for gaining muscle size/volume. They do a ton of strength and static moves over and over and they always strive to be lean. As a result, their bodies look stunning. The same I can say about professional ballet dancers. They are lean, small, and always with popping muscles.

Im currently on this road myself. Back in my 20s, I was in the Army and fully committed to getting out and becoming an IFBB pro. Wife got pregnant, I was in a training accident and fractured 3 vertabrae. I gave up on myself and went from 235 and 12% bf to not lifting or giving a fuck what i put in my mouth. The army had no interest in putting me back together properly. I got out went to college and got a job. I hit 40 and took a really long look back filled with regret and something finally clicked. I was 40, 340lbs, 40% bf and tired of it. 1st of July we took a trip for our anniversary and I suddenly just could not bring myself to eat like shit. I didn't nearly nothing at first but change the calories. Started doing super light cardio again, literally just walking in my hilly neighborhood. End of July I started lifting on the bowflex in my basement. Dragged my buddy into it. Got my macros dialed in at 2700kcal with 250g average daily protein intake. We got to where the bowflex was no longer enough and joined the gym 2 weeks ago. I'm currently down to 308. Hes down 8 lbs and both of us have seen major improvements in muscle mass and strength. He's not nearly my size so he will have much less for recomp but I've got likely over a year since my bf% will take a long time to get under that 20% mark.

How does this apply for obese people? I kinda feel like this may be for people who are already relatively smaller but with bmi of like 40, is it more likely that recomping is going to have a bigger effect?

I think its bs cause you said "for most people its more wrong than right", most people are the fat slobs that have never really worked out and their diet is shit who can absolutely lose fat n gain muscle at the same time.

Really love the yays and nays as you break it down,
Bravo!!
I tend to gain little muscle while loding little fat by eating extremely well, high protein, supplements, but the main key is none of the above, its how intense i go, i go FAR beyond the limits that 99% go in intensity, i dont count reps, i go to failure, then go past failure, then even more past failure with isometric holds.
No one but serious bodybuilders will do this type of intensity.
If i want to bulk, then i can gain lots of muscle and gain little fat.

I've done body recomp in 2020. 320 -> 165 and the fat loss was noticeable, the muscle gain wasn't to any bystander, because my excess skin hid it....but...I went from doing no pushups, to being able to do 50+ at a time....I mean, I noticed it, but it's not 'noticeable' visually.

So what if you recomp, stop training, but eat right, lost that bit of muscle but maintain the lean, then you get back in and start recomping. To me recomp just sounds like a fitness homeostasis and once you hit peak recomp, that’s where you’ve met that “fitness homeostasis” you then have to make adjustments to change your habits to what direction you want your physique to go from there

I could recomp pretty well as an intermediate with significant changes..... But my CNS got hammered. After 3 months of doing it, I had to start eating carbs on workouts again. It was extremely difficult to keep my rate of change up.
I got good results, but I got burn out, so it is not sustainable if you want long term growth.

The question I have then are you going to lose muscle when you’re cutting to burn fat? Or will you just maintain what you have of muscle and lose fat only? Thank you for the great videos by the way!
