Pretty big difference. I don't think these companies should be using the same name...bring back the "m" at the end. That being said playing at 1080p most of these FPS differences would not even be noticeable to me in any way that matters. Any thing above 40 feels smooth to me.

Ведь 4090 в ноуте это кастрированная 4080, у которой забрали более быструю память и снизили частоты чипа, итого производительность где-то на уровне 4070 Ti / 3090.
В целом все равно за счет хорошо отобраных чипов производительность на ватт прекрасная.
Но мне не нравится этот маркетинг, когда убрали приставку М в названии карт, как будто пытаясь обмануть тем что 4090 в пк и в ноутбуках это одно и тоже...

"Better specs" Yeah, no. The difference between Desktop GPUs and their Laptop counterparts (hi Nvidia) is SIGNIFICANT. Most of the time, the PC 4070 is about 40% to 70%(!!!) FASTER than the Laptop 4070, along with having 4 GB more VRAM (12 instead of 8). In Apex Legends (1080p max settings) it will outperform the mobile variant by a landslide, (Average of 205 FPS instead of 125!!) so even merely suggesting that "omg laptop so good" is insanely stupid, and combined with their ridiculous price tags compared to PCs (mostly 3K and above for something that you can build yourself as a PC with pretty much the same performance for many hundreds if not a thousand bucks less) and the lie of "great value", even selling these portable ovens with their horrendus battery lives should be treated as a crime, straight up.

4070 desktop in on par with 4080 laptop in real benchmarks.

RTX 4080m = RTX 4070 desktop

When you said you have to replace the entire machine for the laptop it’s also true for the pc desktop. At the time of the rtx 6070 or 7070. This case won’t be compatible to msi (project zero) or asus or gigabytes (project stealth) zero cable motherboard.

40 FPS of difference is way too much for the « same » GPU, Nvidia need to bring some new name for their laptop GPU because we can’t even compare them 😅

Doing a search, it's actually pretty hard to find a laptop with a 4070 and a 4k display for under $2500, meaning unless you're at that price point, 4k likely isn't even an option even if the GPU could handle it

It's always been like paying double for half the performance... I don't like this misleading practice...

I just got a 4070 8gb i9, 32gb ram laptop, hopefully can run starfield. I never play games at 4k anyway. Love lower settings for more frames 😂

Jarrod, would you be able to test the cheapest RTX 4070 laptop you mentioned here? The ASUS TUF 15.6 RTX 4070 priced currently at $1399 on bestbuy

I think the power efficiency is somewhat incorrect. The laptop cpu use more power efficient one while the desktop use 13900k which we are know that it is the most power hungriest cpu on the planet.

I think it will be more fair to use desktop cpu that have good power efficiency like ryzen 9 7900 non-x. I calculate it will only use 320 watt in gaming and only 360 watt in full cpu and gpu load. If we using 7900 cpu instead of 13900k it will make the desktop one be more power efficient

At 69% the relative performance of a desktop 4070 the 4070 mobile is just as good as a desktop 3060 Ti, or about 11% shy of the performance of a desktop 4060 Ti. I've never been happier to have built a cheap 3060 based SFF as a compliment to my main desktop, laptops are getting shittier and shittier for the price lately.

Really wish you would occasionally do an optimization video. For example, settings allowing a 4070 laptop to play 4k @60fps and 2k@100fps. I understand this is a difficult ask for all laptop reviews but putting aside an optimization perspective would be helpful.

Nvidia should use a more advanced process node and integrate it into one SoC with Intel/AMD. That way laptops could push far above their weights and get closer to the desktops in performance again. The RTX 40 series is not worth it for laptops imo.

It's pretty incredible that the laptop cards are legally allowed to carry the same name. I remember learning this lesson with the mobile 970m 4gb. You know it's slimy practice when the people 'in the know' know what the difference is and will still buy what they need, so no need for the same name carry...but the people who don't know - they'll happily buy a product thinking they are getting a certain card and never check/know different. I'm surprised it's legal.

Nah, if you are gonna upgrade from a 4070 to a 6070 ... chances are, you are gonna upgrade the CPU to keep up with the GPU.

This whole upgradability thing is BULLSHIT.

Unless you plan to upgrade every year, by the time you need to upgrade DDR6,faster CPU, TB5, faster SSD will come along. You existing MB will be obsolete anyways.

Moral of the story never, every expect to get the same performance as the discrete gpu where raw performance is concerned. As you can see even at 1440p, the resolution of most of new laptops you're still looking at 60fps-75 fps system. You're almost better off getting a discounted fully loaded laptop from the end of last year with either a 3080ti or 6850XT

Doesn't matter considering the percentage that'll have a 4070 laptop, on top of an external water cooled system...pointless in every way.

Crossing my fingers for a 5070 with 16gb VRAM, 40% performance improvement from returning to the larger die, priced more like how the 3070 was.

Unfortunately im sure it will be 12GB, similar die, 20% performance improvement, and still only in laptops around $2, 000

I'm not sure what is wrong with the Metro Benchmark but I played the game on my Legion 5 3060 laptop from 2021 and it ran at a locked 60 fps at 1080p. Not sure if I had DLSS on though.

I am considering going for the i7 12700h and rtx 3070ti Lenovo legion 5 for around 2095$ but I also have an option for the i7 13700hx rtx 4070 Lenovo legion pro 5 for around 2700$, do you think it’s worth paying extra for the new gen laptop? I have a desktop PC but I need something that I can easily take with me in my backpack and play games on it and also do some light work. I would love to hear everyone’s opinion in this matter. The advantage of desktop is not only the performance, but specially the repairability and upgradeability. If you really need mobility and a smartphone is not enough, (and you can not have one desktop at each side ) then a laptop is the best, but the PC is bester for everybody else.

Lol at this rate they should call mobile 4000's GPU series "M" (the way we had desktop GTX 970 & clearly obvious and inferior GTX 970m). This is epic fail.

Due to a number of reasons was opting to get a gaming 4070 ti laptop, ended up getting a 4070 ti mini gaming PC built instead. With 1000w power supply and 16GB ram. So kudos to you.
