I believe the « 6th » sense is in fact all the data our senses gavered and our brain processes. We are consciously unaware of many things but our subconscious records many informations, like a shadow here, a group of weirdos there, something wrong with the place, the weather or whatever. Our brain is a great computer that we must trust.

I like the cameras you suggested! I don't know if your van has a sunroof-skylight or hatch. I have a Skoolie and recently locked myself out. A friend hopped up on the roof and lowered himself inside to get my key for me. I never realized how easy it was for someone to do that. Since then I keep the hatch locked, where in the past I kept it open for fresh air. I'll only have it open if I'm in a safe place and am inside.

I have worked on the deck of towboats 20 years and I look it ,but as intimidating as I look .Both knees gone ,back gone hands hurt feet hurt.A 20 year old on meth scares the stuff out of me always be aware of your surroundings

Is there any merit to keeping props in the front cab to make it appear like a work vehicle? Even though you clearly have solar panels and a vent fan.

As much as all these are great ideas … sprays and heavy flashlights will not save your life from a violent criminal endangering your life. If you value your life then you should have a gun. Again the flashing and spraying is good but they will not end a life threat. Spray works when wind in your favor lol and flashing only at night. Just my .02 and not trolling. If people have fear of using a gun, then a good biting and fighting is best.. when your body experiences primal fear like a life threatening event, you should be willing to end the threat. i bought a walking cane, Ventura, CA, my first week out traveling, for a dollar at a thrift store. walking around with a bat or maglight is a little awkward. also later found a good hiking stick to roam the forests, banging bushes and trees so the mama bear and cub wouldn't be startled and I wouldn't be clawed up and down.

Also, look up where the nearest police station is before bedding down for the night so you can head straight there if trouble forces you to leave early and tries to follow you as you leave. It is doubtful that someone will continue following once you pull up to the police station. Maybe put the address into GPS before going to sleep.

Security Cameras! Can you please tell us what brand and model you used as described in this video. I have a Nissan nv200 I converted similar to yours and don’t have windows and don’t want them to keep it discreet and work van looking… but only a backup cam when in reverse and did not Solar wire and would love to know the idea you are using that is “magnets, wireless, simple and cheap.” Thanks so much.

I tried a rest area one night backed in and two cars with men in them parked in front of me and I couldn’t get out if I had had to so I waited for them to leave and then I left that rest area that scared me.

Fear is the biggest fear. Having a dog it helps a lot is you are alone. For company also 🐶♥️

You're a brave woman. The flashlight made me laugh! In the 80s, when I had just graduated high school and was working at Walmart, the manager made sure that all of us (checkers) had big flashlights. Ostensibly these were for lighting if the power went out, but you've pointed out the other uses! Still, if it were me, I'd have an NRA sticker on the back. Blind Justice, the grave, and a Smith and Wesson are the great equalizers.

There are so many risks involved in living in your van.
I lived in mine for close to 3 years and NEVER had a problem, because I followed my instincts. Every thing she said was what I did except # 4.
The number one thing in my book is to never look like your living in you Vehicle. Keep your car looking clean, inside and out, keep yourself looking clean. Eliminate all clutter that can be observed by anybody walking past your car. Always allow enough room where you park for an emergency exit. Another words if you’re parallel parked allow enough room in front and back of you vehicle to escape quickly if you are in danger.
It is a good idea to also know in advance what gas stations are open 24 hours how far away they are this can be a lifeline for many reasons not the least of which is having to use the restroom if you don’t have the means to do so in your vehicle. Also when in danger, any public place that is open and well lit with cameras is your friend. If you have the opportunity to scope out a potential sleeping area do so at various points in the day & night. Take note of what kind of activities are going on outside. A really uncomfortable situation is being in the back of your vehicle and a whole group of people nearby engaging in loud conversations and potentially illegal activities. That leaves you vulnerable to being caught up in their risky behavior.
I didn’t travel around the country I stayed in one city and I had a list of no less than six places that I can go to. Rotate your sleeping area’s so as to not Arouse suspicion. People have a tendency to call the cops for the slightest inclination that somebody is up to no good. I had only one encounter with the police, because a homeowner saw me eating chicken in my car. Yeah like I said people call the cops for everything.
I’m a guy and have far less fear living in my vehicle, I suspect women have far more to worry about. Girls have your head on a swivel if it feel even slightly wrong my advice is leave! I associated with other car campers and I met a woman who was raped by a guy who had told she was living in her car. She made herself a target. Tell no one your living in your car, # 1 it’s none of anyone’s busyness. If you follow all safety rules you needn’t live in fear.

That's an old school flash light they are heavy and it really hurts when u get hit with those even like dropping them on your feet.

I think some people are more naturally paranoid... as a truck driver I was always observant... that in itself is a deterrent... people do not like being observed... some truck drivers think they need to carry a gun... that is false security... using it a could get you jail time!

Siphoning gas is more prevalent having a locking gas cap is a must.

Using a baby cam you can see who's outside your vehicle.

Motion sensor alarms let's you know someone's by your vehicle.

They have dummy security cameras that is used as a deterrent.

Having a big flashlight as a billy club is not good advice... nowadays they have small compact stun guns with a strobe light in them... wrongdoers always looking for an easy target... someone carrying a stun gun is not an easy target!

Guard dog makes a flashlight, stun gun, pepper spray combo that is usb charged and small enough to fit in your purse or pocket. Stun gun intimidating sound.
