Hoy toca peli de culto. Una de esas que ya en su momento pasó relativamente desapercibida, y que el paso del tiempo ha colgado la medallita de filme especial, diferente, digna de ocupar un pedacito de vuestro corazón cinéfilo. En la época de su estreno, recuerdo que me encantó, pero podemos decir que esta película fue el último ejemplo de cierto modo de ver el cine, más artesanal, menos efectista que lo que vino después, gracias a la aparición de la obra que lo cambió todo: Matrix. Y es que son tantas las cosas que comparte nuestro momento retro de hoy con la película de las Wachowsky, que su nombre aparecerá varias veces a lo largo de la reseña, aunque las comparaciones sean odiosas.

Incluso en el argumento, las similitudes son más que evidentes. La historia comienza cuando nuestro protagonista se despierta en la bañera de una sórdida habitación de hotel. No recuerda nada, excepto fragmentos de su propio nombre. Su falta de recuerdos no es la única sorpresa. Descubrirá que es perseguido por la policía, identificado como un asesino en serie de prostitutas. En la búsqueda de su inocencia, pronto dará con la existencia de un misterioso grupo de seres extraterrestres, los ocultos, que no dudan en manipular los recuerdos de los seres humanos, enfrascados en la búsqueda de la esencia de la humanidad para combatir su propia mortalidad. Gracias a sus poderes y su mente común, estos seres son capaces de cambiar la realidad a su antojo. Nuestro héroe, en su lucha por conservar su identidad y recuperar sus recuerdos, descubre que también posee habilidades superiores que le hacen un igual, y por lo tanto un peligro para estos seres.
