I can tell you don't know about the Civil War or using this game engine. Positioning troops or moving into position for flanking. Watching you fishhook your mouse trail is ridiculously unnecessary. A flanking maneuver is where replacement troops move in and the troops who are being replaced move to the enemies vulnerable position. Good God man, I was studying Civil War history at the age of 5.. Difference between generation X and you apparently...

How the heck can you spot the surprise skirmishers from so far up? You playing so high up that it makes this look like a children's game...I've never played this game and playing from such a high view isn't very impressive. What does it look like down closer? I know that it's better to play from higher up to catch everything but you're playing for yourself, not your audience.

I think your biggest mistake was letting your entire army get distracted by a couple hundred skirmishes when you had units of thousands. Personally I think the best move wouldve been to let 1 unit keep the skirmishers busy while the cav swept up their flanks and the rest of the army progressed towards the main target

Bought this game because of your videos. It is awesome, but I wish it had multi-player.

I have to say at the beginning I was amazed that you didn't just keep advancing on the skirmishers. That is what the message was telling you to do, push away the Union skirmishers with the Vanguard. Not form a line and engage them, the entire battle was supposed to be a surprise attack

Is there a WW2 game like this?

You need to stay out of ghe trees when moving, use the roads to get to where you need to be then make for the trees for defencive benefits. Use the Sqermishers button to get some troops to scot ahead so your brigades don't run straight into enemy fire.

Is there a dig in setting?

I have found that using artillery close and aggressive is very effective in this game.

When attacked in the center and their forces are sitting back, take a couple volleys and pour into the charging enemy's side.

you can detach skirmishers from a infantry unit, its the 6th command button in when you select the unit.

See the battle plan. There are mandatory goals, and there are optional. In the battle of Shiloh only one goal required and that you have not fulfilled. You're also misplacing the troops. Always try to use the forests, fields and buildings, they give a huge bonus to the protection of the squad. This is one of the easiest missions in this game, and if you can not pass it, then the campaign will be serious problems

Too much in your favor. If it was really accurate your reb forces would have been in disarray after the engagement, they would either be looting or confused during the fighting. The rebels didnt have very good intelligence or communications (gunboats surprised them at nightfall, alot of the generals didnt know what their forces were doing after they ran out of position). You had battalions out of position due to the dense Forrest or getting lost. The game should have killed off general Albert Johnston towards the beginning of the game then general bragg taking over towards the end of the day. If the game had focused on the Confederate flaws then you would see how even when the rebs were advancing they were losing the battle. It's a good video, even if Albert Johnston survived it would have been tough for him to defeat Grant's army. Albert Johnston had to contend with late artillery setup from Powell. Supply's were difficult to get up to the front line. johnston's death was huge when he got shot in the foot because the generals were took too much time to get a plan, once bragg took over the rebels were spread out, supply and ammo were low, lack of intelligence and will made Bragg stop and reorganize to fight the next day. I thought the Hornets nest and the church were a little bit too easy since those places killed and held back waves of rebels in reality. Since it was a draw, it actually was a win for the union since buell would reinforce Grant's army, More ships arrive, and the union would push them back to Mississippi so they would later siege vicksburg and take the Mississippi river. Also, no general Sherman in the game? Somebody just got fired.

Wait a minute, this battle is not supposed to end in a draw on the 1st Day. You are supposed to continue on to the second day and face the Union counterattack.

Throughout the battle, mass bayonet charges are key to quickly securing ground. I also recommend that your larger cavalry units should be used to run down routing enemy troops. You were doing pretty well with minimal losses but sadly the battle has its time constraints ;-;

That was a fun video. That game gets so intense! If your boys are out of position use the "fall back" button. It will save a lot of soldiers. If you just turn around they get smacked. The a.i. isn't fooling around. Also, if you run them too much they will slow to a literal crawl. Such a great game!
