Isn't the mysterious captain a Starborn?! I remember having an encounter with them and they sell really expensive stuff.

I was on a quest where Sam Coe was scripted to be my companion when I got arrested for a bounty I didn’t know I had. Then I was given the Crimson Fleet quest while Sam Coe was just chilling in the background during my prison interview.

Erm I thought the getting arrested thing for sysdef was the only way, I’ve only ever been arrested

I was on the very first Constellation mission, leaving the bar and accidentally stole a knife laying on a table (hit E instead of F) and immediately got picked up by the security forces and was pressed into service.

The ship taking off happened to me and I was to low of a level to take it… thought I was stuck for like 10 minutes then fast traveled off 😭🤣🤣

The first time I ran the SysDef quest they stopped me for having contraband.... except I had no contraband at all. 🥴

My favorite random ship encounter is definitely the sea shanty Scottsman. His voice is fantastic and in 120 hours I’ve seen him once.

It's far more simple unequip your weapon pull out your fist punch a dude (UC security) in the face then holster your fists guard will arrest you and starts crimson fleet quest

Funny the UC is blackmailing me to infiltrate the Crimson fleet after they caught me with with a stolen artwork
which is considered contraband,I was only 10 hours into the game and considered starting over.

Best random encounter is bumping into the Hunter chillaxing in a bar and having a chat before I realised who he was. The conversation made sense once I discovered he was Starborn.

In my playthrough, I started the fleet quest line after escaping Neon with my new artifact and a paltry 500 credit bounty (unavoidable, part of the main quest, and I didn't know where the bounty clearing thing was). Note: I NEVER had any bounty up until that point. So their hammy hostility was both baffling and humorous, calling me a petty criminal, scum, etc. meanwhile I essentially had a $5 'bounty' on my head. Like bruh, you're treating me like I'm a hardened thug over a stolen pack of gum. I couldn't stop making comments about how silly this was. I wish my character could've snarked about how the whole thing was ridiculous, how they were making a big deal over pocket change.

I started the Pirate questline by being captured for Contraband!

its pretty good if you just want to be a pirate itself without being a snitch, if you get arrested and brought in and you choose to refuse to do the UC undercover mission then you get dropped of on Mars and if you wander around Cydonia for a bit you'll be approached by a random guy who will invite you to start the Crimson Fleet storyline without having to be a snitch, you can just be a straight up pirate

I refused working as an undercover agent. and still became an undercover agent.Quit, choose a previous save file. And proceeded to get if one land, arrested, at numerious different place's by two cops. And if in space, constantly being interdicted. Only to end up with all my save's, cause'sing me to be constantly arrested or interdicted.

What if you go to jail and meet a pirate and they help you escape prison to join the fleet eventually, that'd be a cool intro to it

I usually play a good guy but when I was on the UC vigilance and I saw the option to be like “just kidding I changed my mind” I couldn’t resist. Straight up attacked the bridge and escaped, eventually finding myself joining the crimson fleet through a contact in Cydonia. That’s so cool that there’s other ways to join them though!

Same thing happened to me in regards to boarding a ship that took off. Only problem is we immediately got killed by SysDef while I was onboard 😂😂😂

I got that crimson fleet mission you get from the UC Vigilance from a bounty of 40 credits lol. The best part was they were treating me like i had killed 2 men when in reality I accidentally stole a boost pack 😂

Mysterious Captain reveals themselves in NG+

I've only done 5 main constellation missions and 300 side mission I'm level 45 lol

if you jump into UC space with contraband they also bring you in to start the CF story line. I didn't have my stuff taken so I don't know if that was a bug or not.

I got caught smuggling and sent to jail and started the quest thay way. Totally didnt know how to smuggle..... it sucked.

My first play through, I ran across a mysterious npc in a coffee shop. That was pretty wild!

I got the UC vanguard quest from another ship. She said her ship was messed up, and she needed to deliver something. Asked if I would do it. I said sure, took the payload, went to the system that it needed to be delivered in and got hauled in for having contraband on my ship.

Mysterious captain is a starborn. Once you meet him after visiting Unity, you will have another dialogue options.

Honestly saying, whole idea with NG is cool, but looks very incomplete. I want to see different history(like UC won war, or terrormorphs destroyed all settlers in galaxy, etc), big changes in faction missions, etc. Like a 2-3 NG becomes boring, and you just running around finding minor differences in dialogue options.

Int he story line I’m on the quest right after all that money can buy but I don’t do those quest often I’m trying to do a lot of side quest that way I can win in the larger fights later on by gaining gear during the side quest

Vasco literally turns into a enemy seeking robot in the abandoned casino space station I literally didn’t get to kill any spacers Vasco RAN (no floating animations) in zero g to every single enemy and slaughtered all of them.

I think that the Crimson Fleet quest line starting with the player getting arrested and railroaded into going undercover was the most likely intended way to get that quest, and also the more common way to get into it (I've had it happen to me three times now, and I have no idea when the UC guy would ever direct you there because every time I've gone to do UC stuff I'd already been hauled in and pressed into service foe SysDef.
