According to the band bio Tomas knew Tarja from childhood. He wanted to put together a group that was softer, maybe folksy? But after Tarja went for formal training and he later heard the power of her voice he knew he had to step it up to be on par with what she could do.

It's cool because they sound like they are competing, which makes sense for the song about the phantom of the opera being inside her mind...but obviously still trying to complement each other to make the song work....Also I think their competition really makes sense for an outdoor concert like this, compare to watching the whole musicla.

After listening Tarja for the last 25 years, I can say that she has this amaisin ability to wrap her voice around the every singer voice that she makes a duet with.

They've performed together recently, for a couple of times, it sounds different, I wonder what you'd think.

I think that in this performance,Marco completely stole the thunder from Tarja! I think that your reaction was the reaction we all had...you expect to hear the magical voice of Tarja and be carried away...but then....he is going so high...he is so powerful that you focus on him! Totally iconic and a revelation at the time. This is the number where so many people saw Tarja's sheer presence and fell in love and saw in Marco what Thomas must have seen to recruit him.

BS. It is not possible that a vocal coach hadn't seen that video before. I'm from a russian village, and there's noone here who hasn't seen and heard Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish. The fake surprised face that she makes with the intro just made me mad and I could not resist writing this comment.

I love them and he is the horror version but in the original he should sound like an angel...i get why we love him but he is the devil, instead the original was a monster with the voice of an angel

Tarja has much more range than the new singer of nightwish, Annette. you can really tell the difference when Annette tries to sing ghost love score, a song Tarja totally owned. In Annette's defense though she tries more than Tarja ewer did. Tarja just seemed to know she was amazing and thought everyone would love her no matter what. That's the attitude that git her kicked out of the band.
