Yeah, I agree with pretty much every one comment here. This is really fucked up. there is no reason to do this. None. A benediction does not require a kiss, or even any physical contact at all. It is contrary to the spirit of Buddhism in every way.

I find the type of superstition encrusted tantric Buddhism in Tibet, with all its esoteric secret practices, a bit suspect. Not because of the above (but the secrecy would make things like this abuse easier to hide), but just because I think it strays too far from what I perceive to be the true essence of Buddhism and the pursuit of enlightenment. But all Mahayana schools are like this I think. Theravada has always seemed far more in keeping with the spirit and intent of what Gautama actually taught.
