The closest Microcenter to me (Florida) is 20+ hours away. Not a viable option for most.

Dude! You da man! I just used your Best Buy hidden stock trick, drove 17 minutes, and scored an MSI 4090 they had hidden in the back! Fortunately, I got a very young girl who didn't know any better and went into the back, despite an older geek saying that they didn't have any, so she checked anyway. And BOOM! Plus they had a 10% off your first purchase if you signed up for a credit card, so I did that and got $160 off - and paid it off immediately right there in the store.

Just wanted to say thanks for Best Buy trick, just picked up a 4090 FE using this. Just asked the girl to check stock on the SKU, she went to confirm that the order was cancelled and came back out with it. There were even a couple of stores showing they had one available. By the time I got home they were all gone, so there's definitely other people that know of this trick, Lol.

whats the point of getting the 4090 if the TI is coming out in like 2 months.

I got a 6900xt in Best Buy back when it was just released...got lucky, they had 4 in stock. I'm not buying Nvidia for my AM5 build. AMD's drivers are extremely polished and I had no issues with the 6900xt so I'll be waiting for RX7000.

9% sell through on the 4090 on ebay. Let scalpers try to scalp them. There are plenty of much better deals on ebay. I got a 6800xt for $425. The GPU flood hasnt even hit yet.

In reality there are mountains of gpus that have already been manufactured and seating in manufacturers' warehouses while just a very small fraction of those gpus was taken to retailers. That's obviously a marketing move. Nvidia and aibs just artificially create an impression of high demand by supplying very limited quantity of gpus to retalers so that people who doubted earlier realized that this thing won't be waiting in store for them forever. And there are so many of such doubting consumers. Once restock happens there will be even more people in line than it was first time...and.. Rinse and repeat! Make people wait, sell a tiny bit, make them feel that they must buy it now or never. And so on. Also, there are ofcourse other reasons of purposely limiting stock, but the main idea is that it something that definitely benefits everybody whos envolved and can make more money on it (Nvidia itself, AIBs, Retailers, other brands who can sell overpriced prebuild PCs or combos with 4090 as the main desired part in it, etc.). Overall it's a regular marketing approach which has always worked. (IMO)

As to the advice of buying AIB models on launch day equalling Nvidia's review deadline, this time it means buying before reading reviews and knowing which models are good or bad. I am not that stupid.

As to buying Ampere at or below MSRPs, 2 years after launch this is too expensive. Good for those in the USA who do not think so. For, e.g., 3080 10GB in Germany, typical prices are 20 - 27% above MSRPs. The lowest price ever for a few hours was 11.4% above MSRP with 3 cards in stock of my preferred model a couple of days ago. The prices now ought to be 30% below MSRPs, and this I would pay now.

I landed the Founders 4090 today, so the hunting is over for me.

Nvidia intentionally want this 4090 to be out of stock to create the hype for it, if they want to stop this they would have restocked asap.

I got mine on Newegg 3 min after release. Still got the one I wanted., tuf non oc! I ain’t no dummy! But I think I might go for a founders next time. I just didn’t want to pass up the tuf without seeing reviews it was a gamble but safe enough

All you need to do is not buy one for a month (Usual return time) and all the scalpers will assume no one wants to buy scalped GPUs and return them. Simple.

Don’t give the scalpers a dime.

To me, Best Buy is a waste of time I focused on Newegg and grabbed the model I wanted. I would also say to have 2-3 models that you’re good with and use the browser and have PayPal checkout set up already.
