Skoda Rapid long-term test final report - What Car? 2013

I have to disagree with you guys. First, this soft suspension you mentioned is really not bad at all. I find it to be very comfortable even. It smooths out light waves on the road very well. Sure, on some pot holes it can get a bit shaky but trust me, I would still rather sit in my Rapid than in a 2017 BMW 5 series I've rode in or even my parents' 2017 Octavia. Hard suspension makes it feel like a punch rather than a shaking experience which you get in the Rapid. It sure is preferable.
Second, I own the 1.0 TSI 95 hp engine and I can say that it's actually very good on the motorway. Sure, there are faster cars but what's to be expected nowadays where you find 200+ hp engines in family cars and V6 with 300 hp in a mini bus. One thing that is annoying is that quite often the engine seems to switch into some eco modes or whatever it is supposed to be but it reduces its power noticeably. It's not by much, it's still very quick and flexible but it needs a bit more time to get going. It never got me in trouble when overtaking for example or when waiting for too long when I don't have the right of way but decide to use a gap. Fully loaded with 5 people and full trunk - no problem. My car never failed me in terms of power.
Also, in terms of fuel cost and taxes, for Bulgaria it's an excellent car. My fuel consumption is around 6l/100km, lately I even got it to around 5. I'm driving mostly in the city and on the motoway every now and then. It's especially efficient on country roads. Not city, not motorway. Normal 2 lane road. My record on such a road is 3,9l/100km for a trip of 250km. My yearly tax is 24 Bulgarian Leva. It's nothing.
One more thing I forgot to mention - the vents that you said were so bad and slow... Well, if my windshield becomes "wet" from the inside, the vents clear it almost immediately. In cold winter mornings where I have ice on my windshield, I just turn on the vents towards it on full blast and in like max 5 minutes it's clear. If I'm in a rush, I just spray some wiper fluid and it melts.
So, dear readers - I recommend the Rapid. Buy it without hesitation.

well I've never heard someone complain about a car having as big boot lol he had to reach all the way in for his shopping lol FFS ... it's a good budget car.

Key locking filler cap. That old chestnut! They are designed to prevent hijack or to stop you leaving engine running whilst filling up or to encourage people to lock their cars while going to pay at the pump. Sound idea and NOT a design fault.

I bought a Red one the other day, 1.6 TDI Elegance greentec. To me its the MK1 Octavia revamped. Its got  17" wheels, alloy pedals, red/ black Bucket seats, sat nav, climate and corner turning lights.  Its a good car but if your going to buy one buy the top of the range- of any Skoda and get the toys rather than rental car spec. You got to realize that British motoring journalists like to compare everything to an Audi A4!
