What size retaining ring pliers is used. My prongs on mine are too big to go into the grip holes of the ring

Excellent how-to video! Appreciate the clear, concise directions, close up shots, and the way Mark tells you what each piece is called so that you know what to order. Parts arrived quickly, and they were high quality. Great to have our mixer working again. We'll be ordering from you from now on!

I ordered a new standard worm follower gear for my KitchenAid Pro 600. Part #9706529. When I tried to reassemble the worm follower gear onto the planetary shaft the gear will not slide all the way down past the roll pin fitting. Any idea why this might be happening?

Do you use any kind of solvent to clean the grease out of the gear housing?

Thanks for making this video... It was well made... my only critique is what appears to be a 'forced smile'. It was a tad off putting... but since that was only at the beginning and end and the majority of the content was focused on the mixer repair... not a major issue. Keep up the great work.

Thanks very much... I'm almost there! But I'm stuck with putting back the worm gear--I have the washers and bushings in place and dropped it in, sides of bushings are straight up and down, but when I rotate the fan thing the gears aren't moving together. What am I doing wrong?

My following gear was badly worn but everything else seemed okay so I just replaced the one. When I put it back together, it made a lot of grinding noises so I took it apart again. Is there any way of telling which parts need replacing other than just visual inspection? I have compared my parts to new ones and there is no discernible difference. Excellent video by the way, I wish everyone else used this as a learning template. Great visual, timing and well rehearsed. If you weren't working from a script, you have a damn good memory!

Thanks for sharing, I am ready to take on this project. I have TWO pro-600 mixers with no spin. I can’t wait to have them both back in action. Ordering the parts now! I’m curious, is this much grease on gears pretty normal? I had no idea it was so important!

Just got done replacing the planetary on my 15 year old Pro600. The video was excellent, the only problem I had was finding a set of ring pliers small enough to remove the snap rings. Three sets later, it went smoothly, taking about 30 minutes. And I am no expert repair lady. Thanks.

When my Kitchenaid 600 Mixer suddenly died I thought it was the end of the world and started trying to figure out out how I would ever afford either the repair bill or purchasing a new one! I decided to search online for ideas on what might be wrong with it and landed on your video. I am now proud to say that my mixer is back in one piece and working beautifully. Your instructions were clear and easy to follow. I can't thank you enough!!!

this a great instruction video that I had found after working on our mixer. I had replaced the plastic housing 4 years ago. and should have replaced the gears at the same time but did not. today I replaced the gears all from ereplacement parts. had taken it apart before so knew most of the steps. someone asked what the cost was. I did not replace the planetary shaft but did all gears but the secondary gears. I replaced all the bearing parts. The cost for me was 65. which when you consider the price of a new mixer, it was well worth the price. Thank you for a great video. I saved it so that I can refer to it later.

I watched this video and I have spent the last hour and a half trying to get the snap ring off. Now my husband is trying and he's not having much luck either. I would love to get to replacing my worm following gear - the reason I watched the video in the first place - but I am stuck. I have everything I need to do the repair myself but I'm going to have to take the damn mixer to the repair shop just to get the stupid snap ring off.

UPDATE: 2 hours, 2 people & 3 pairs of pliers used at the same freakin' time and the stupid retaining ring is finally off.
