24 volts ac products also work with dc power supplies (for digital appliances like modems or security systems)

those photos of the kids from the early 20th century are pretty haunting considering they have all been dead for 50+ years, yet the color makes them look so real.

B&W shot through color filters is how the color vector graphics you see in TRON were created (when Flynn has been digitized and is flying down to the Game Grid). Robert Abel & Associates created those images on the Evans & Sutherland Picture System, which was a 3D workstation built for tasks like CAD and flight simulation. It uses a B&W vectorscope display. RAA photographed these images directly off the monitor with the use of RGB filtration, shooting a pass, rolling the film back and shooting the next color record. It was time consuming but it worked and created a very specific aesthetic that's difficult to reproduce with modern motion graphics.

Gonna be real trippin when I tell my sister that her $3,999.00 DSLR camera is technically three monochrome cameras in one.

Autochrome is simpler. A color slide of a trinitron screen over the camera and acetate of the trinitron screen in front of the monitor.

What you can do I guess if you have 3 of those camcorders, is just mount the filters to the cameras and take three photos at the same time. You'd get a slightly different kind of fringing, but it might end up being a more æsthetically pleasing kind.

EDIT oh wait this video is 4 years old.

I stumbled open Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky’s color photos on Wikipedia years ago. The first photo I saw was dated 1910, and I first thought it was a typo. Boy was I wrong! It was the first time I ever saw any color photos from that far back in time, it blew my mind.

this can be done directly with a digital filter ? or scan with a red paper filter right between photos and scanner?
serious question

I was really hoping you'll be writing an algorithm with basic to do the merging of the 3 photos instead of using gimp. But this was one of the greatest videos I've watched, thank you.

Question: what would happen if you stacked light filters of all the colors of the rainbow and looked through it??? Do you get what I'm saying

Great video and very good explanation of trichrome! I am planning to try this technique on infrared film, as I have lately got some new filters for bnw film, one of them being an infrared filter. And I am also wondering if I could use this technique for darkroom printing.
The pictures by Prokudin Gorskii look stunning!

What if- and hear me out, you were to use the 3 colour filters with a GameBoy camera? Then you print out the pictures, scan them and pop them into GIMP / Photoshop and you easily got yourself some low resolution colour pictures.

This comment is most likely far outdated but if the color filters don't block all the unwanted light properly it may help to create a fourth image where all three color filters are combined to get the overall peruse of the extrinsic light. Like if all the three filters have the same characteristic to let infrared light pass that imagine can be used to lowering the values of each individual color part and so to normalize the true colors.

I actually did this for work with industrial cameras except the software required a 4th visible channel (amber) along with RGB for several reasons. Theres also a mode where you can analyze the subject/targets material if you intentionally include UV and NIR and IR

Give it a color wheel from a projector or something, bet you could get three nearly frame similar images if spun fast enough. Cheers!

You should try blocking visible light and just photographing IR. Then mix that in with the other shots for some cool effects.
