The man's an absolute unit.
ОтветитьCeasars philosophy is extremely interesting because his interpretation of Roman culture is in fact totally flawed, much like the real Julius Caesar. Such good writing.
Ответитьone of my favorite lines of dialogue in the game "what a fucking waste of time" "if you think it's worthwhile to make smart people learn how to talk like backward savages, you're a follower of the apocalypse, or an idiot."
ОтветитьCaesar made me a hypocrite. I play all my playthroughs (barring the ones I need for achievements) as a wildcard benevolent dictator. I and my companions rule justly and efficiently.. but brutally. It’s my head cannon that after the battle for Hoover dam, I smoothed things over with the ncr (though I claimed the dam as my own, I did not charge them or anyone for the power it produced) and took my upgraded robot army of death east and just went ham. No more legion. No more gods, no more masters, indeed… except me. Took me going through this very dialogue to realise he and I aren’t so different. I won’t tolerate slavery, but at the same time there is no quarter given to raiders or bandits either. No second chances, no reformation. In my Vegas, you’re free to do as you please… as long as it’s lawful. You ask me to do something and I’ll get it done. But fk with my shit and you’re in for an anti-material round.
ОтветитьFallout 4's main antagonist: a obnoxious delusional nazi dude who has a thing for kidnapping innocent people. He kidnaps them, murdered them in cold blood (serial killer style probably collect "Trophies" too) and replace those innocent people with robots. Also the nazi institute assholes keep creating and using those robots in slaver labor. When we ask the obnoxious delusional nazi dude why he keep doing this. He reply by saying "It's complicated"
Fallout New Vegas' main antagonist:
Really, its Caesar or House who will advance civilization forward instead of the NCR. House's Vegas would create the sort of rapid economic & technological development seen in many Asian countries during the Cold War. Caesar's Empire would centralize authority, organize society, and create a more productive wasteland.
ОтветитьAnd much like Rome, Caesar's legion is destroyed because his idea of cultural integration and rapid expansion wasn't as stable as he thought
ОтветитьI always choose to kill the white legs but given Joshua Graham teaming with some random guy to teach a tribe to murder was how the legion started maybe that was the wrong choice
Also the sorrows kept setting people on fire and doing war crimes maybe long term its worse
Also I love how arcade ganon reads caesar perfectly, everyone goes 'muh philosophy ' but caesar is a fucking idiot who thinks just because he uses the word hegelian he's right when... He's obviously not
ОтветитьAlso he's just lying about the legate, dude is so full of shit I killed him instantly and he has a normal ass face
ОтветитьThis is what you call top notch writing.
ОтветитьRawls
ОтветитьI don't like Caesar but the fact that Joshua, Ulysses, Vulpes & Lanius served under him is proof enough that man can lead. Like Joshua says, only Caesar can lead the legion.
ОтветитьConversations with ceaser alone makes doing legion quests worthwhile. I don't think I've found a game that presents philosophy and history and make it so interesting.
ОтветитьI was starting to think he wasn't so bad, and that he was making a lot of sense and had some good points. Then I remembered that this is the dude crucifying, raping, burning, and murdering tens of thousands of innocent, or relatively innocent people
ОтветитьSomething I noticed: Caesar is essentially taking credit for what Graham did in training the Blackfoot. While it is possible both of them trained the Blackfoot in combat, Caesar never had a background in combat, whereas Graham did. If you ask Graham about it in Honest Hearts, he explains it as if he was the one who trained them and not Caesar.
Out of the two, I trust Graham much more than Caesar on this one. Caesar might have helped with the tactical aspect, but Graham was the hands-on person in the training of the Blackfoot.

ОтветитьIt's ironic that Cesar frames his conquest within a frame of Hegelian dialectics. Although his definition is only half-right, what is ultimately ironic about his use of dialects is that, dialectally speaking, his societal structure and the reasons for his conquest have already been beaten by its natural antithesis: the mere existence of totalitarianism and fascism. Now, his criticisms of the NCR, New Vegas' stand-in for a capitalist democracy, is completely correct; however he never seemed to grasp how short fascism's lifespan is when met with concerted opposition or lacking said opposition - his empire is doomed to crumble. Dialectally, his empire's antithesis is its mere existence - history, a subject he considers himself knowledgeable of, has proven that his society's success will be brief and its ultimate fate being collapse.
ОтветитьYes cus Rome wasn't historically corrupt...
ОтветитьHoly fucking shit. I shouldve explored caesars dialogue before. He always starts off so arrogant that i would never talk to him after doing his first quest. Need to reinstall and try a legion playthrough.
ОтветитьCaesar the final boss of FNV: throws books at the courier. courier literally dies
ОтветитьAlways loved torturing him. Then hanging his body from a cross using a mod.
ОтветитьIt's funny how the contrarian edgelords do whatever they can to justify supporting the legion and/or Caesar. Like they're some misunderstood rebel. Just conveniently ignore Caesar's past of slaughtering every man woman and child of entire tribes. Or justify the slavery with "would you rather die" like "give me liberty or give me death" is too normie for them. None of the factions are perfect. That's what makes them intriguing. But to say the NCR is on the same ethical and moral level as the legion is just trying too hard to seem like you see something no one else does.
Ответить
Lanius is the Darth Vader to Caesar’s Palpatine.
ОтветитьThe two games I've played which have the best writing, to the point where the dialog is almost more fun than the gameplay:
Fallout: New Vegas
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Both made by Obsidian. 👍
Can’t anyone tell that’s Rawls from the wire. Commissioner
ОтветитьI wish you could call Caesar out on misquoting Hegel. It would have been a hell of a 10 Int check.
Ответить"You cannot have Unity under a democracy bcuz Democracy is a government system that encourages dissent and opposition, only under a totalitarian autocratic state can one achieve that, be it a facist or communist government"
-Thinking Pinoy in response to the failed attempts of the new president to call for unity.
Courier Six: Are you familiar with Shotacon?
Ceaser: I'm unfamiliar with this, "Showta Khan" tribe. Do you have any knowledge concerning their current territories or significant camps? I'll be sure to deploy a Frumantarius that way immediately, and if their conquest proves significant to my Legion, I'll see to it that you are rewarded handsomely for bringing this latest victory to my attention personally."
See, this is how you make good villain.
ОтветитьHagelian Dialectics isn't destiny. It's just a way of looking at conflict. Just because Caesar says the NCR will be defeated, doesn't mean it'll happen.
He's just taking the opportunity to sway the Courier to his side with a fancy speech based on a misunderstanding of philosophy.
thank you so much Obsidian for this amazing gem I love this game so much its a work of art I am so thankful to have played this in my formative years.
ОтветитьBased
ОтветитьI will do something like this when the civil war starts
ОтветитьAm I the only one who finds Caesar insufferable? He's such a pretentious git, every time he talks I want to punch him
ОтветитьHe seems to be a lot more like Genghis khan
ОтветитьThey did an excellent job developing this character & backstory. I can completely believe this guy's story and how he went from a student, fledgling linguist to a conqueror as well as his reasons for escalating things the way they did. The voice actor is great too.
ОтветитьI think one of the main reasons Caesar regards Lanius with little respect beyond battle and still views him as some what of a savage is because he can’t talk to him on his level.
We hear he doesn’t care to adjust his language or learn to talk to the tribes, he’d never have convinced anyone to join him without Joshua to translate.
So when we meet Lanius, we can actually talk man to man on issues Lanius is well versed in, war. Instead of philosophy.
I always loved how Arcade totally calls Caesar calling the Colorado River his Rubicon
ОтветитьCaesars intelligence stat was only 4, kind of weird
ОтветитьGod damn is the writing in fallout NV amazing. Fallout 2 is my favourite fallout game from a world building and gameplay perspective (the mental image of cruising around the wasteland in a beater sports car with a super mutant and a death claw never get old), but holy God does fallout NV have some truly incredible writing
Ответитьi love that Caesar has no tragic backstory; he was too young to even REMEMBER his father being killed. He grew up with probably the absolute best group he could have in wasteland, had education, food, medicine. His life was as good as it could be.
and then, one day, for no reason whatsoever, he just snapped.
I just cannot get over Caesar wearing that ridiculous square computer glove thing. It makes him look ten times less intimidating
ОтветитьI didn't know much about Lanius before i persuaded him with speech, now that i hear what Caesar said about him the dialogue makes more sense
ОтветитьMy only problem with the game is that it isn't more extensive in its use of philosophy and history. I want more dammit!
ОтветитьCaesar tries so hard to convince himself of his empire and strength. So many titles but they are all just slaves, even the generals, the second in command and even head dingleberry himself was always just a slave who got scarred
Ответить
