It's annoying that xiangqi tutorials never explain why they play their moves. If they do, the position is extremely situational. Opponent was so bad. Sacrifices a 车 for a bunch of checks. He could have instead just defended and he would be winning...

Why did Red win? I'm super new to the game but it looked like Red was in trouble at the end. After black moves the chariot down to the final row, putting red king (general, whatever) in check, Red can block with his elephant but Black can just take and checkmate Red... right? At the very end, instead of moving his chariot out of danger of Black's horse, shouldn't he move the king right one square so next move he can escape upwards from a back-rank mate?
