You guys are right about a lot of things during this movie. It's complicated. You gotta watch it, a few times. Michael is just evil. The part with the drapes. I think, Fredo was the one who opened them. While Michael was talking to the Senator or one of the other thousands of people who he was talking to during the celebration. He's not going to come in the bedroom every 5 mins. to make sure everything's intact. A kidnapping would've been just as bad as the attempted murder. Al Pacino has had a very successful career. Choosing between him and Robert De Niro. I pick Al Pacino, every time!

The drapes open. It was Rocco. That was the betrayal he had to atone for by the impossible killing of Roth. Fredo killed the men who tried to murder michael and was feeding Olaf information.

Hyman Roth didn’t plan to kill Pantengali. He planned for him to live thinking Michael betrayed him.

"The Pear", when Abbondanda is forced to let Vito go, he refuses the box of groceries and brings his wife a simple pear, most touching scene for me.

So many great elements...what a great cast (except for Sofia Coppola ...talk about a father's stupid decision) What a shitty movie! You cannot throw in a little of this, a little of that , try to tie it up with some dialogue and expect a good movie. This film was as shitty as Copopola's acting

I like how the Senator makes fun of Michael by literally deliberately mispronouncing his family’s name twice at the party but when he’s alone with Michael he says it perfectly. Brilliant touch by Coppola.

This bothered me for decades. Anyway I have satisfactorily resolved it in my mind. The comment from Danny Aiello is not directed to Frank Pentangeli. It is to be heard by the barman. Why ?
It is part of Hyman Roth’s plot. The barman lets slip that Michael Corleone organized the killing of Frank, thus portraying him as treacherous to his own people and removing Roth as the prime suspect. Ahh Roth “he played this one beautifully”.
By the way, Senator Geary confusing “Kay” and “Pat” at the cheque ceremony ?

I don't really understand why everyone mistakes this. Michael was not free to forgive Fredo he was bound by the rules of a system. which is totalitarianism. killing Fredo makes total sense if you understand totalitarian systems which a mafia family ultimately is. "betrayal is not to be forgiven" is a core rule because if someone gets a pass even if he is a relative then it will start an infestation of corruption in the ranks of the system. Michael didn't do it because of revenge, he did it to make a point that had to be made no matter what, which is " if you betray the family, even if you are the brother of the DON himself' you are done" Michael even tried to keep Fredo alive using their mother as a causes belie but after passing of their mom, there was no excuse any more. the capo regime, captains, and other soldiers expected the punishment of the betrayer. Michael had to make it happen or risk losing the integrity and structure of the mafia organization he was administering.

Bill Simmons awkwardly making fun of Kay and then Chris and Sean for some reason worried about offending Diane Keaton is just fantastic.

The problem with Godfather 3 is similar to the problem with the later seasons of Game of Thrones, the art is bad in COMPARISON to what came before it but both things are still pretty good pieces of art when compared to movies and television in general. Godfather 1&2 are basically Tom Brady and then Godfather 3 is Philip Rivers, like yeah if you compare Rivers to Brady its like who the fuck wants Rivers as their Qb but if you compare him to Qbs in general it's like hell yeah I'll take Rivers over Tony Romo or Kirk Cousins

Great anaylsis... koppelman an enormous addition...But Best Movie ever?? How do you even start to compare it better/worse to 8 1/2 or Seventh Seal or Andrei Rublev?...Try best American Movie ever and leave it at that

Of course it's not the best movie ever. Casablanca is the best movie ever. After that is Some Like It Hot, Dr Strangelove, Singin' in the Rain, The Wild Bunch, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Judgement at Nuremberg, Witness for the Prosecution, Gone With the Wind, Rebecca, and a few others. But of course, it's a very good film. That it's not the "best movie ever" doesn't take away from that. You guys do need to get a grip. And watch more classic films.
