Filipino martial arts like arnis, kali, and escrima can be compared to an empty cup. As you become proficient in them, you have the opportunity to incorporate and blend other martial arts like taekwondo, muay thai, and numerous others.

I'd put HEMA in around number 6 or 7 in my list... There is thangta, meitei sajan, asal gatka, shastarvidya, that has higher and stronger pressure training.. even kali has sparring matches with iron rods that are much much better than hema.

I don't understand how Zulu stick fighting is in the top 10 most effective, while arts like Tae Kwon Doe (my kid's school teaches 4 weapons systems) or Wing Chun that use the dragon pole and butterfly knives aren't even mentioned. Fencing in the top 10, really?

I kinda like how all the other martial arts are like very dancelike, traditional and even spiritual then HEMA is just like cut his ass. do NOT get cut by his ass.

Iaido is useless because you don't fight a real opponent but an imaginary one, so of course you always win against him, is your head. Is literally the grown up version of playing with swords for adults

Most "effective weapon based martial arts" from your list became sportive more than a century ago. Asking which weapon-based martial art is the best in 2022 is like asking which healer can best cure your leprosy.

I wouldn't put HEMA on the list, like at all. It's far too broad of a term cause when you say HEMA, I have no clue what you mean specifically. You could be doing German Longsword, French rapier, Scottish Quarterstaff, sword and buckler, etc. And then then they'd still be too broad since those are then broken down into individual lineages (Meyer's longsword or Donald McBane's staff, etc.)

Especially with many of the arts mentioned before being only one weapon, I find putting HEMA as number 1 is a big cop out answer.

what about shaolin kung fu? rhey also use weapons but i guess you mean martial arts using ONLY weapons. Shaolin uses empty hands aswell

My god in terms of efficacy or practicality Kali is the most effective martial art in this video. In Kali we use stick's knife sword and our barehand it's a well rounded martial art.

Search for two of them: Ancient Wrestling (unfortunately, it is called "Roman Wrestling" nowadays), and "Traditional Upper Egypt Stick Fighting", locally known as "Tah.teeb"...

In my opinion it is not the weapon you use but to be trained in it effectively getting rid of all the nonsense in fancy kind of like moves is the go and keeping what works in any art the idea of a weapon in combat mode is to kill the opponent you need to master each weapon to kill that it will not take more then 1 strike to kill and the 1st strike like a second or so if you do not strike 1st you don't get a 2nd chance for your opponent would have struck you like in sparing they have protection and both players a scoring when with me it be one strike and all over in sparing with protection it is strike and strike back but in real time combat if you strike to kill even with the 1st strike well a dead corps can not strike back like in sparing they do strike after strike i do train with as many weapons i know of most of my life in hand to hand combat or weapon is the same 1 strike it be all over

Great vid , I would say any style that lets you wield what ever is laying around to deadly effect is a good weapons style to learn . I teach Arnis / shillelagh and have studied fir nearly 50 years and simple concepts rather than tecniques you can use a shovel a pole or fencing post the same way give you advantages . If you can teach a student in a couple of hours how to be dangerous with any size weapon then that’s a good system . I’m not saying a master or unbeatable etc but they come out with a decent fir hand back hand and stab with easy to apply footwork your onto somthing

Escrima,Kali or Arnis it's a sword based martial art wich contain 12 areas .Each area it's a weapon or a combinaion of weapons,for exampte :the stick/the sword,the spear/the staff ,the knife,the karambit,espada y daga(sword %knife,etc.Not just the double stick.=)))

I live in the philippines. and im here to tell you that you don't want to run up on one of these old rice farmers. they will mess you up very well with those escrima sticks. wonderful people but can be very dangerous if provoked

I almost watched this.. but then I realized you wouldn't have Wing Chun in this video.. The Bart Cham Dao are most likely the most dangerous.

Having practiced Kendo. I felt exactly like you said I could tell something was messing and have been eying Kenjutsu but I must say I am HEMA sparked my interest.
I 100% agree showy martial arts with jumping and pirouettes with no true practical application are to be avoided unless you wish to do it simply because you love it's forms.
I personally have always been drawn to practical martial arts

Fencing is no joke I respect it very much as katana wielder. But the last style I only see ninjutzu attacks working. Smoke bombs, powder attacks withe shattered glass. 😎

sorry but, kendo and fencing are combat sports, not martial arts. they have so much to do with a real fight like paintball with a real modern war.
if you spar too much, it will mess up your strategy in a real fight. if u want to have a real feeling about a real fight then take real live weapons and fight. u will fight differently than any sparring.

I'm thinking number 4 or number one would be cool
