The movie was “a history of violence”. It was about a father trying to leave his violent criminal past behind. This scene shown here came just after another locker room scene where the same boy (the main character’s son) does an amazing verbal takedown of the same jocks.

The fact this came right after that other scene seemed a disappointingly heavy-handed way for the director to force the message “well violence is going to happen to you anyway.” To confuse the message even more, they talk about this son facing assault charges from the jock’s family.

It was a clumsy and negative writing in an otherwise good movie, as if the writer couldn’t decide what message he wanted to convey.

Every bit of shame and anger I have inside me from being bullied as a teenager comes rushing forth when I watched this. Tears in my eyes, I wish just once I could have done this to a couple MF's that made my life miserable. Still haunts me to this day and I'm almost 60 years old. Pieces of shit, it hurts so bad inside sometimes, I hate myself for taking it. I never want to make someone feel like that... ever.

Love it - school doesn’t do anything about the bullies but when you finally strike back - oh, then they crack down you and it is absolutely bs - I was so proud of my son because he 1st walked away, then he used words but they kept coming and he did as I taught him - took only one punch to the biggest bullies nose - he was in trouble by the same teachers and administrators that did nothing when he talked about the bullying - I was so proud of him because from that point forward, my son became a protector of those who were bullied

This movie is old. Today the kid would just buy 3 defense rifles and a crate of ammo. He'll go to school light and start shooting. We would then need to send our thoughts and prayers. He would the be a mental health victim and the bullies are such nice kids with a bright future ahead of them.

I don't remember this. All I remember from the movie is the MC making love violently to his wife on the stairs.

Like the movie “Homefront”, where the little girl warned the bullie three times before beating the crap out of him. And then somehow, the roles get switched around. “You stood up to the bully, but you went to far, you didn’t use all the stand-up-to-the-bully restraint you could have. The rest of the movie is about what a evil s.o.b. you are. Show me a movie with the bully warned, explicitly, over and over, and the picked on person trying several times to walk away? Where the bully just all of a sudden, gets the message and on his own, mellows out. Show me this “standing up in a decent way that, for no good reason, starts to work”. The bully is now a sweetheart because you let him know he hurt your feelings. He had no idea up till now. Takes a while to sink in. Shit, when I see a bully taken down, it’s a celebration. Not wondering what comes next. “Oh, the evil I let myself do in fighting back”. Ruins the movie. What were they supposed to do? Make THAT movie.
