when measuring speaker distance from the wall, the measure points are the center-front of speaker and the wall not the back of the speaker and the wall. no manufacturer is expecting people to have enough space in their home to have speakers placed so far away from the front wall.

When i studied film and video, same thing similar to microphone placement.
As I went on to become a professional sound engineer, what you shown was the basic principle for sound placement it is important for people to show what you explained, kudos to you! Thanks!
Also to note, in small rooms reflection of sound finding the sweet spot of optimal positioning and how soft furnishings effect the absorption of sound, like curtains carpets sofa's.

By personal experience, placing the speakers on top of a large surface is not a good idea. You need speaker stands of the size of the speaker

Ok I'm in a trailer home with 2room acess, wanting to know if and how to get the maximum sound with a Sony 12 in sub w a bottom rear ported box. I'm wanting to know because I have a huge recliner in here. I'm thinking it takes a lot of the thump? Shall I remove this?

Thanks for the great video. I was going to mount my speakers to the front walls but it sounds like I should maybe just get two movable shelves like you have. QUESTION - I came into Paradigm ADP 170 v2 speakers: Centre, Left, Right, Rear Left, Rear Right. The rear speakers seem to be pointed in two directions. So take Rear Left for example. If the back mount and wire holes are facing the back wall, then the speaker is pointing in both left and right directions. The side opposite of the back mount is just a flat wooden part. I've never seen this before. I believe it is called Bipole speakers. Is there a particular way I am supposed to arrange these rear speakers?

Tell me, what should be the distance from the walls to the left and right? I don't have a wall on my left, and a right - cupboard, and it seems to me that the sound is wrong. Because if I go to a distance, I can hear the bass, and when I sit in front of the monitor, I do not hear the bass, for example, in the distance.

I have my speakers on my desk, that is covered by an xxl mouse mat. Will that affect the sound? Will it absorb the vibrations? It actually sounds lacking. And they're pretty big speakers.

I wish I could find people who actually cared about all this such as yourself. I'm so picky about all this although I've never had really great quality sound systems. Right now I'm using an ion sport xl and its everything I need in a speaker its got a good balance of highs minds and low sounds and works good to me pointed at me or even away.

Your rubber band visual was brilliant. Just to offer my 2 cents: Getting the speakers deeper into the room is ALWAYS going to give you a more interesting stage. Dont trust your eyes, even if the speakers look weird out so far, just trust your ears. Heck, my #1 placement trick is doing this at night and turn the lights off as you listen. This will help you get there real quick.

I've found that in my living room with its odd shape and the speakers I'm working with (Bose 141's) if I puts them at ear height and as close as 6 feet apart, they sound very thin and cheap. What I discovered was that putting them on floor shelves near the corners of the room and tweaking the right frequencies just a little, they use the room to produce a huge full range of frequencies. They sound huge and a lot more accurate.
