Database I once had to work with (the guy who created it wasn't there any more)

-Absolutely no numerical fields. Every field was a string.
-The unique field in the company table was the NAME of the company. All other tables that referenced the company table used the company name to reference it.
-If you wanted to change the name of a company, there was a script to change it in all the tables that used it.
-Dates weren't a single string, they were THREE string fields. Month, day and year.
-In one of the dates, the month and day were accidentally swapped, and the guy just left it like that.

I did convince the president of the company to let me scrap the whole thing and replace it.

I got hired for my experience in C#, while 90% of the legacy codebase is COBOL (don't try to learn it! It'll only hurt you!)... I'm still there, because they actually pay the overtime I need to understand the legacy code :D

Jokes aside, I personally prefer using tabs. Thing of it, with spaces, other people in your team can't have their own preferences. If you use tabs, they can edit their settings.
