I butchered a lot of the pronunciations in this vid. Sorry to all the Welsh speakers out there. You now join the ranks of people all over the world whose languages I have failed to read out correctly. Believe it or not I do try quite hard to pronounce things correctly. Languages clearly do not come naturally to me. I will try harder in future to get things as correct as possible.

I live but a few miles from Brecon, Ystradfellte and Penderyn, which you features a lot in this video. I must say that , even though I had a vague idea of the past , your well presented account was very good indeed. Well Done and Thank You.

Great storytelling. But I wish more effort went into the video. More time on graphics to explain the video instead of just showing vacation shots.

I decided to listen to this whilst falling asleep, as I love listening to docs throughout the day and night. But I'm afraid that I struggled to get half way through, as you completely butchered the Welsh language. So much so it completely distracted me from taking in the information. Try doing a little research on that next time. You wouldn't like it if I mispronounced every word of your language, whilst trying to teach people of its proud history! Made it seem insincere and patronising. Really disappointing I'm afraid.

The British did not throw off the yoke of Imperialism. The British were Romainised and integrated. They were for all intents and purposes Roman.

I discovered Wales as a young mum in the 1960's when my brother went to Bangor Uni, and I went to visit him - fell in love with the place, & spent the next 15 or so years using my holidays to be up there as much as possible. It is a magical place - full of history around every corner, and so beautiful ! I'm old now -83- & love to watch videos of anything "Wales", thanks to Youtiube since I have been in the US for many years, but a big chunk of my heart still 'lives ' in Wales ! The Welsh history, the people, the green, green countryside, the mountains, the coasts - it has everything, and I always wished I could have moved there totally. My brother in fact never returned to the London suburbs & his kids still live there, so it's a family thing now long since ! I think Wales, rather like Scotland too, has a deep pride in who it is & what the history has been. The English invaded so many places & took over, but it's good to know that the indigenous languages are being taught again in the schools, so as to never lose them. Love you Wales, don't ever change !

I'm an English man who's lived in the Beacons for thirty years, all my children are Welsh. This presentation was amazing and I can't wait to see the next presentation. The battle of Brunaburgh was interesting as its also mentioned in " Egils Saga" where he and his brother Thorolf fought, Thorolf dying there and Egil collecting compensation from Alfred.
I also enjoyed Gerald's description of the south Welsh too. Best regards 👍

I loved your shot from Abergavenny castle looking at the ' puchbowl', the end of the "Blorenge" mountain, the only word in English that rhymes with 'Orange' lol.
What about the stories of the Roman soldiers at Caerleon whipping their legs with nettles to combat the cold 😅
Or is that just myth lol.
Cracking vlog pal, best wishes 😊

With your pronunciation of the place names this quickly turns into more of a comedy than a serious piece of historical interest. Pity!

Ednyfed Brychan was no Contempory of King Arthur, Arthur was born in Glamorgan in the 6th Century Brychan's Father was a Brythonic Celt, his Mother was daughter of Ystarth king of Powys . Today Brychans Tomb at Llandaff has been opened and his DNA taken it is Brythonic so do not talk Bollocks , also Crannog at Llangorse it is 6000 Years old. The Bronze Hinge are common all over Cymru, Rhain Goch was King of Powys not Brycheiniog which was NOT a Kingdom in its self Rhiwallon was King of Glamorgan ? You are mixing up seven different lines. what the fuck are you talking about! There are plenty of Recors about Brycheiniog look in the Annals Cambriensis Elisedd ap Twdr was from Ceredigion there was NO Norse invasion of South Wales and they stayed just 15 Years in two forts at Margam and Pil ( Pyle) and were friendly! Absolute tosh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why are you doing this you bugger!

Great video bur your pronunciation is appalling so sorry, but full marks for trying. I just wanted to add that the country would have been far more densely forested back then. Also Pen-err-Van; a single f in Welsh is pronounced v and Magnus Maximus, see Macsen Wledig. Sorry I keep doing this but I can't help myself. Brychan Bru [ch as in loch)an and also Dyfed, Dove-ed. Don't know if this helps or really irritates. I will have one last go; Brycheiniog - Bruch - eye - knee - og. I am am really enjoying this in spite of my comments and you are having a fair stab at the names.

Just one thing, work a little more on your welsh pronunciation...it's painful to the soul of a Welshman to hear his language being used completely wrong 😢 😂✌️ I understand it's not easy for an English man but it's important to get place names and people's names right in history 👍

In the interests of preserving Welsh culture for goodness sake get a Welsh speaker to voice over your videos about Wales . The language is an integral part of our History and to have place name mispronounced to this extent undermines the credibility of your content and is also offensive to Welsh people . Next time someone mispronounces you name , think about how it makes you feel. Then now imagine how it feels for Welsh people to have important land marks such as Penyfan mispronounced . Its makes a laughing stock of Welsh history and its insulting . If you care about your work and Welsh history then do the job properly

the Brecheiniog Irish were assimilated by the King of Gwynedd and Cuneddfa, they also spoke Cymric , why because in the South of Ireland there were Brythonic people because the Irish and the Welsh had kept close to each other in pre Roman times, the time around the 11th Century was in the Beacons entirely Cymric, many of the Irish had married into Brythonic families you will find the remnants of those Irish in the names Owen Bowen Worgan Wogan and so on , but that is not the entire story I have History in the area, my family name was originally Gwendaf and hailed from near Treseren in Ceredigion, but part of the Family moved to near Talgarth in the 7th and 8th Centuries, they were Land Owners under the King of Powys but part of the family was Ap Owen and Irish, of course Owen is also a Brythonic name, but the Irish including Ednyfed Brychan were also part Brythonic, they had been moving back and forth for Centuries, these were the peoples in Ancient times that travelled through Europe as far as Turkey and Armenia, Celts and Gaels had many fights, but often combined and were certainly in many Roman legions.

Caractacus, was never in Shroshire, he was born in the Vale of Glamorgan is Celtic name is Caradoc, there is a Hillfort and Burial from the 1st Century at Twyn Caradoc this Burial is as big as any you will find in Europe. Caer Caradoc in Shropshire is impossible , why, because it was lived in 1000 Years before Caradoc in the Bronze age, also Caradoc was a Silurian and Caradoc was of the line of Meurig and Cadfael. he is buried at Caer Caradoc but that is on Mynydd y Gaer above Brynnau Gwynnion on mynwent y Marchog. You need to read the manuscripts of the authors of Cambriensis from the 18th Century in the Aeolian Oxford it mentions the blood line of Caradoc and later. This also comes in the Words of the saints of Cymru and Armorica, Macsen Wledig was a Celt.
