Tech Talks @ Horizon Quantum Computing are our way to stay up-to-date on the developments in quantum computing from across the research community. We provide the stage and benefit from the exchange of ideas with those who are pushing the technology and the industry further.

Our second guest is Dr Ben Brown, one of the co-authors of some very interesting papers on correcting biased error models with topological codes, and concatenating continuous-variable and discrete-variable codes.

Dr Ben Brown

Practical quantum error correction with the XZZX code and Kerr-cat qubits
In this talk, Dr. Brown discusses
• how to decode quantum codes using symmetries and conservation laws
• the XZZX surface code, and its high performance against biased noise
• how to produce and preserve noise biases with Kerr-cat qubits
• the threshold error rates that result from concatenating Kerr-cat qubits with the XZZX surface code.
