I wonder can I use my smartphone AND 5G tablet with the same sim?
IF they both (or at least one) support eSIM, can I use it on both devices - it perfectly fine if only one can use it at a time - whichever registered latest on the network I guess.
I know I can make one device hot-spot and the other can connect thru wi-fi, but that's not optimal - as occasional network traffic on the hotspot-device can interrupt the internet on the other connected devices, it also drains the battery rather quickly etc...
If the two devices can support it I don't see why I have to use workarounds with compromises (and I'm definitely not paying for TWO mobile network plans for single person /me/) ... it seems to me that network providers are just lazy or pushing us to pay them unnecessary more :/

Physical sim is more secure and best for travellers

I'll buy my Samsung phone overseas if I must for duel sim slots. I've done it twice already importing european and chinese versions....honestly it was $200 cheaper than what a Samsung costs in my country....amazing!!!

One upside of the iSIM is that on-one will be dare to steal your phone do a hard software reset and sell your phone, instead they will now have to sell the phone as spare parts.

Integrated sims just add another failure point that will render the device useless.

Here in the UK most contract phones are sim free, not sure about crApple though if they still sim lock to the first card you put in it.

This is one of those things that the EU needs to outlaw. There is no benefit to consumers in abandoning SIM cards. The excuse that 'it saves space' is just that--an excuse. The purpose is locking down phones to specific carriers, increasing both cost and e-waste.

So if my phone dies and I want to switch to a new phone, now I will need to call my carrier so they can send me a QR code? I can't just switch the physical card that I own into another phone that I own without involving the subscription service provider? That's horrible, please don't ever buy a phone without a physical SIM card.

No No NO. The biggest drawback is that carriers will do EVERYTHING in their power to NOT release the esim to be provisioned for other networks not their own. Its absolutely anti-consumer, and not because manufacturers and carriers won't support it, but because they're scrambling to support it as it lets them completely lock you in to their crappy services.

Wait a minute. Who buys an extra sim when going on holiday abroad ? You just
a) Buy a roaming package from your current provider, that works abroad. or
b) Already have one prebuilt in your plan.

Who paid LTT and Techquickie to not to mention the fact that eSIM and iSIM are first few steps to prevent consumers from selling and buying used phones by locking down the device to a network forcefully? This is beyond the SIM and service provider locks on current gen cellphones.

Im no expert on the subject, and this has probably been mentioned before, but won't this give the telcos better opportunity to go back to the days of locking the phone to their network only, and then have to pay a fee to get it unlocked?

If you have a see-through small empty prescription bottle that you washed out and it's dry, you have a waterproof (if you have the right kind) place to store the old SIM, and it's something that passes through customs easily.. todays worth it tidbit 😊

Yes they def need the space that the physical sim takes… they need it to put a piece of plastic in place of it

Again - the tech could make the product amazing. More space for CPU/battery/camera and less energy consumed by SIM card is great. But I bet there will be some incompatibilities so that phones bought today will not work after 10 years (now I can even use Nokia 3310 if my smartphone breaks for whatever reason). And sim locks will return.

Can we stop pretending that esims and isims are good and solve any problems. Make the phone slightly thicker, most people won't notice and you gain so much more battery life and space for other components than you would from removing a sim card.

I tried switching from an iPhone to an android, and both said support eSIM. My former mobile carrier would NOT recognize the eSIM IMEI. I went with a provider to get a physical SIM once again. People left and right having issues, I think people will raise backlash to bring this back. Way easier to switch a physical sim than eSIM.

What I find interesting is that in the US the Iphone 14 is eSim while the same phone uses a sim card in the EU. My Google Pixel supports both, how nice.

Can we PLEASE stop saying that carriers support esim? They dont. Not a single one on the planet. Noone. They support specific phone models with esim. And that is an enourmous difference. It means my perfectly fine device with modem cannot connect to the internet because not a single provider says they support it. They only support specific phone models. Cant we just ban this PoS garbage practise asap?

My operator offers eSim only in their shops so if my phone dies I can never switch to another phone if I’m abroad, will probably have to call customer service (obviously from another phone). Esims and isims are bad for us customers!
