There is a great fix for the lag. If you have the LG G7, open Gcam swipe over to More>Settings>Advanced>Fix. Then switch the "buffer fix" button to on.

Can you still record video in 60k with the Gcam App on the G7?

I think the G Cam on the LG looked GREAT - except for the stabilization. If it were on a gimbal - which are only $100 or so - the G7 is the winner. Thanks for this comparison!

Great reviewing again!! what im noticing that ussually the pictures look beter on the gcam (daytime) for video stick with the lg cam on that.
For me the stock lg cam does better in night (gcam night mode not tested yet)


Dont forget to fine tune settings when using the gcam also experiment with the hdr as different models give other results and you might have to lower or higher it.

How did you make the night vision work correctly?
Because I use the app but the night mode does not work well, do you have any specific settings that you can share?

Wow...Yeah, so much for the hype about that mod. I mean, I could see it making some phones take better pictures, but it honestly looked worse than the G7's stock software in a lot of areas. And what's with Pixel's mic audio?! That was horrible lol. It sounded so freaking processed and definitely higher in frequency than it should be. The audio on the G7 sounded a lot more natural in comparison. I could see the Pixel taking better pictures in some settings, but I could also see the G7 taking better pictures in a lot of other settings also.


 I think the only thing the Pixel won during that comparison was the optical stabilization hahaha. I think LG could have definitely done better in that department. It was still a little shaky when it was working on the stock app, whereas the Pixel's looked pretty fluid in comparison, more like a Galaxy device. I don't know if that's something LG could fix within their camera software in an update or if it's even something they would bother doing at this point. Would be nice though.

Do you need to unlock the bootloader or something to install Gcam?

I just got a g7 open box for $265 ...these things don't hold there value sadly that's plus and a huge minus.. but if lg would put a near stock android on there phones and make the camera software be equally as great in automatic mode as it is in manual and push updates more than 1 every year and a half they would be in a whole new ball game! Just like Samsung's new OS skin Samsung one ... lg needs to re do theirs and just do a light skinned very light skinned stock android like Motorola did.... and for phones with lcd panels have one look to take advantage of that screen technology and for phones with OLED panels have another look to take advantage of the screen technology of the oled ..., very few manufacturers are using both screen techs in high end flagships ... Apple and lg really that's it ...and Apple using lcd in there lower tier model ... I'm debating keeping the g7 or trying to get a v40 used in mint condition for under 400$ but it's sprint but the guy selling it saying it's unlocked!? Lg website shows the sprint model has almost all bands or all the bands to make it work on other networks word wide but I never heard of a sprint being unlocked for Verizon and gsm have you or anyone else?

The audio sounds pretty much the same between the stock and google camera app.

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but I think it would help this type of comparison if you included stock camera photos as well. That way we can see the difference between Google app photos and stock. The main difference I noticed hear is that the pixel photos are warmer. The G7 Santa photo with night sight was killer though.

I am using both the LG camera and the latest Gcam by Cstark27. I like Gcam because of the better preserved details but i dont like how Gcam completely crushes the blacks, especially noticable when zooming in. It is like Gcam manages to preserve the dynamic range until a certain level of dark, and then i just caves in and makes the dark grey areas totally black. Maybe it gets better if a newer version is relased.

nice comparison. since you are testing phone cameras and phones all day, you should give your personal opinion more often, at least at the end of the video in a quick summary. It is after all an opinion based on experience and actual testing.

in auto mode with HDR turned off, lg g7 gives more detail than with HDR on AUTO or ON, I have no clue why. It gives as much detail as the GCAM often, minus the yellow tint. Do you have any idea why this happens?
