After the giant spider and other unpleasant stuff in my last game, I decided to abandon that fortress. I decided to start over with a new game on a completely different biome, this time a Badlands.
I checked the DF wiki since I recorded this and I would like to mention that I was wrong about one thing I said in this video: Despite its name, "Sandy Clay Loam" doesn't count as either sand or clay, it is just a regular soil. I do have a source of sand so I'll be able to make glass, but as of the time being I don't know if I'll be able to make pottery.
Anyway, things are off to a pretty good start so far. The wildlife has been pretty benign so far. I appear to have gotten past the aquifer, and I have my grazing animals on a pasture, so there's no big hurry to try and find the caverns this time. Whenever I do get around to that point, I'll try to be much more cautious about it than I was in the previous game. I think in this game my biggest issue is going to be threats from the surface.
